Luke Rodgers scored a fine hatrick for Notts County as the Magpies ran out 3-0 winners at Sincil Bank. Despite the scoreline, City did spend a lot of time in County's half without ever really looking like scoring, something Rodgers managed within just seconds of the kick off. The result leaves the Imps just two points above the drop zone.  

The Imps kicked off three times within the first 60 seconds of the match. After Rodgers encroached before the kick off had even been taken, the ball was played straight from Kerr to a Notts defender, he booted it to Rodgers and the striker placed it between Burch's legs for 1-0 within fifteen seconds of kick off.

That was quite literally all that really happened in the opening twenty minutes with no chances being created by either side, although the ball was spending the majority of it's time in City's half. A free kick in the 19^th minute saw Johnnie Jackson float a ball into the box and was cleared by Brown for a corner, the corner was subsequently wasted.

It didn't take long for Rodgers to double his tally for the night when he latched onto a long ball and slotted past Rob Burch, the goalkeeper not saving a shot up until this point. Then, after more than thirty minutes of play, the Imps finally managed a shot on goal as Sergio Torres blasted wide from 6 yards out.

Hughes and Ritchie were booked for the visitors before Howe hit and effort towards goal. Jamie Clarke was quickly replaced by Andy Hutchinson just minutes in a tactical chance, but neither team could manage another chance before the half time whistle blew for a chorus of boos around Sincil Bank.

Lenell John-Lewis dallied on the ball. Shane Clarke came close to pulling one back but his effort was blocked. City were playing much better in the second half and were spending a lot of time in the Notts half. Howe shot wide from distance before John-Lewis actually appeared to give a crap for once as he jumped to head Howe's cross wide.

A rare second half Notts attack in the 65^th minute saw Hughes test Burch just before Matt Richie was taken off, replaced by ex-Imp Craig Westcarr. Jones was booked for the visitors before Oakes came on for the shockingly poor Kerr and Fagan replaced the equally inept John-Lewis.

Shane Clarke tried his luck from 25 yards and hit the post but the Imps were shown how to score just before the full time whistle when Hughes knocked down for Rodgers and the striker confirmed his hat-trick with pretty much Notts' first shot of the second half, the final incident of the match.
