Another day, another defeat, another cup exit

City's run of four years without a win in any knock-out competition continued as two former Imps linked up to dump out the Imps. It was another dismal display from City and there are rumours that the team didn't actually leave the Darlington Arena until gone 11pm. In a season where a striker hasn't scored a goal from open play (other than what appears like an own goal credited to Fagan), Paul Connor will be kicking himself for wasting the chance to score his first competitive goal for City. He was played through one-on-one with Knight, only to see his effort easily saved by the goalkeeper. It was pretty much the only realistic chance that the Imps created.

Ironically it was two former Imps who linked up for what would turn out to be the winning goal. Lee Thorpe was City's leading goalscorer for five seasons in a row and scored the winner, heading in a Kevin Gall cross.

City were lacking all the cutting edge that has caused defeat in all of their games this season, with the exception of two, neither of which City really deserved to win. The worrying fact is that with less than a month since the season began, we've lost against both of the teams that currently occupy the bottom spaces, one of whom hasn't gained any other points against other teams.

The future is anything but bright at the moment.
