How Jackson drove me away

By theimps.tk

With talk rife about Peter Jackson's future, a Lincoln City fan has agreed to tell us how he went from being a big Lincoln fan, to someone who has lost complete faith in the Imps because of the aforementioned Jackson.

I've been going to Lincoln City now for about 8 years. I loved going to watch Keith's teams and even Schofield's first 6 months. I have seen the club nearly go out of business and more. But nearly 2 years ago a man took over the club who won over the fans very quickly. Peter Jackson he saved us from relegation and then despite being diagnosed with cancer did everything he could to help us. He returned during pre season last year and signed what he called "The magnificent seven," like many others, I fell for this and believed we'd do it at last.

I was wrong and I watched Jacko ruin everything. I became friends with Patulea and his brothers towards the end of the season and when I read what Jacko said in the papers about Adrian annoyed me. Whatever peoples opinion on that issue, there is no excuse for leaving your best striker on the bench. I slowly started to dislike Jackson and at the end of the season made the decision not to renew my season ticket and not to go watch Lincoln until he was gone. Whatever the reason for each person involved, around 1500 fans have also disappeared over the last 2 years and haven't returned.

We are now into the new season and from my personal point of view, I'm enjoying it. I got myself a season ticket at the club my Dad supports - Leeds United . The problem is no matter what i try, I can't stop my obsession with Lincoln but it's not how it used to be. I liked going before, Now I go to see the friends I've made at Lincoln and to let out my frustration abit. As people start to lose the faith and join the "Jacko out club" which seems to be getting bigger after every result.

My hope for this season is that Jacko leaves a new manager comes in who sorts out this big mess. Who do we replace him with? There are plenty out there and without knowing the board's budget on the manager and who would want it's hard to say a name. Gareth Ainsworth to me would certainly be a favourable choice. I hope by next year I can get a season ticket with Lincoln with someone in charge who will love the club like I do. I hope the team settles and we get some exciting players who can encourage the crowd to believe but only time will tell.

Why would we want someone who has no track record of success as a Manager?

I respect him as much as any other Lincoln fan for what he did while here as a player, but too many clubs over the years have fallen into the trap of thinking that because you are a good player you can also manage. It's crap!

Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Peter Shilton, Terry Butcher, Trevor Francis, Ray Wilkins, Gary MacAlister, Alan Shearer, Tony Adams, Billy Bremner .... the list of players that make unsucessful managers is endless.

We have as good a Manager as we are likely to get and ought to make the most of it.

Why would anyone better want to come here?

Fine, but that does rule out anyone with any record in managing a football team.

cherry exile...look at the team picture on your post....see the manager....what was his managerial experience before we took him on?? didn't do too badly for us did he???

I posted pre-season that i was losing faith because of the lack of signings and apparent lack of ambition. Where's the money from freck, danny? I forecast as we did with schoey we'll finish up squandering money on paying up the mamager's contract.

I've been an imp since my dad took me aged 12 months and have seen it all for over 45 years. I was really optimistic at the start of last season but I felt we had givenup by February...sure we got results but we also had some howlers when we got into some kind of form and outside chance of play-offs.

I'm losing confidence fast and yesterday we were poor against a team that's leaked goals. I guess we'll struggle on until we're out the cup in early novemeber....20th in the league...crowds down to 2500 and then pay jacko off.

I just hope I'm totally wrong and I'll be the first to post on here and say I called our current situation badly wrong.

Any comments other imps?

The 1500 only came because we were in the playoffs for 5 years in a row.
Now we arent they stopped coming like they did before under Stant and Buckley, I remember being in midweek crowds of 1800 for league games under them.
When Beck first arrived we'd had similar low crowds for the half of the 90s.
First game I went to there was less than 3000 that day in 1982.
If Jacko goes who do we get? Another failed manager currently out of work? As we wont have the money to poach one in work.
How long do we give the new guy? It also means that this season is probably a write-off and I've wasted £250.
Unless we get someone to invest BIG money we will always be a fourth division club like Rochdale.

You didn't see him & Iffy up at Accrington ..... the odd slick back through his greasy barnet, but the look of I havn't got a clue what I'm doing, or how to change something that isn't working!

I despised Jackson when he was at Hudders, temporarily fooled by his hype last summer ..... but Accy last Sat, was the last straw for me!

JACKSON/ONUORA OUT!

Good to see you're all sticking by your manager. And as for the original poster, anyone who calls themselves a supporter and then goes and buys a season ticket for another club ( a fuc**ng shite one at that ) should hang his head in shame. If i were an imp i'd tell you to f**k off and don't ever come back.

Frenchbantam.....we have stuck by our manager...that's the point. He's enjoyed great support from the fans. However, since he finally signed his new deal its all started to go wrong. Fans are losing confidence and we're entitlted to air that view on fans' forums.

Didn't see many supportive posts for Stuart McCall after Tuesday night on your fans' forums. Isn't this the guy that said he would walk resign if you didn't get promotion last season? You didn't but then he changed him mind...i wonder why??

what is a shame is that no other manager will allowed to talk up our chances and create a lot of hype pre season as jackson did to sell season tickets in the forseeable future.lukily for me i doubted him and refused to be sucked in

Its true some people wanted Mcall axed and probably still do. I also remember the night Alex Ferguson was given one last chance in the cup many years ago. Incidently this was my post after the defeat against your boys the other night.

Great article, and pretty much sums up how I have also felt about Jackson. The Patulea situation was diabolical, and on this season's goals scored and frankly goal threat, has been proved to be an even worse piece of management. I went on to the Offical Site today hoping that he might have done the decent thing and resigned, unfortunately, his fat face next to 'Jacko's Reaction' made me leave the site immediately to see what my fellow sufferers were talking about here.

Great shout on Ainsworth. What a magnificent move that could be, but honestly, I'd very happily settle for Ward or Big Keith if we couldn't get him.

I'll be going to Darlington in a fortnight (have already promised a mate from London I would take him), but if the performance is anywhere near as bad as it was against Burton, I will be another addition to the missing 1500 until Jackson goes, because I'm certain that we will be having ANOTHER cr*p season with him in charge.

i am starting to loose the faith and fast, at the moment i cannot see us winning games with our midfield, without oakes we look terrible, and jacko will either not play him or he may be injured. i wont be spending money to go to daggers or bournemouth, because at the moment i am really @#$%& of that we are going to have another @#$%& season.

As much as I would love to see Ward or Ainsworth installed as manager I also don't want my memory of either of these two legends marred by them being unable to get us out of this league in the right direction. Legend or not the fans would turn on them if it was going horribly wrong. I will be at D&R on Saturday as I had already arranged to go and it is my turn to drive. After that I will not be at SB while Jackson is in charge. It is not just the 4 games this season, but we have endured some awful football with players who lack any passion for the last 18 months. I hated the hoofball of KA, but at least the players had fight and spirit. I do not have the answers as to what is going wrong, but sadly I do not think Jackson does either.

There speaks a man who left Sincil Bank at half-time on Saturday. I have known Dean for a few years now and he is one of those supporters who rarely misses a game, home or away. Lincoln City has been his life for almost as long as it has mine (and that is 46 years).

I respect Dean's comments and would like to point out that if we are losing fans such as him, then things must be pretty awful.

May I finish by adding that Joe and I will probably not waste the £27 on the Darlo game. After that, we'll wait and see.

I said to Posh after the game on Saturday that I wouldn't be going to Dagenham on Saturday if I hadn't already bought my ticket; yet that is the nearest game to where I live. And I will go to Bournemouth as I've purchased my train ticket. But patience is wearing thin, rapidly.

Whilst i always respect other peoples decsions , I have always waited for 6-7 games before forming an overall opinion . Its the football club I support and not Jackson . I have never liked him , but i support the club . But to say im not goona visit Sb whilst he is there is a bit rash imo .

no one knows what the future holds if we did we would all get 6 numbers on a saturday etc etc .

So if we make the playoff places under jackson ill sit in you seat then Dean lol

It is not a few games this season though Chesh. The quality of football at Sincil Bank last season was dreadful. Jackson does not appear to know his best XI when he has a full squad to pick from so chops and changes players, and when we have injuries we do not have enough depth in the squad. How LJL is a pro footballer is beyond me, because if he is he best we have to offer bring back Big Dave Cameron. I hated the hoofball under KA, but it least he had a plan A and plan B was to throw on more forwards and plan C was to take all the forwards off and play defenders up front. That is a little bit tongue in cheek about KA. No one seems to know what style of football we are attempting to play, and that no one seems to include the manager.

Dont get me wrong Dean .

I am defo no Jackson fan , never have been and never will, and I agree with you totally about the style of play , the ienpt tactics jackson seems to employ and even the words about John_Lewis . As for Alexander , me heart says id have him back 2morrow and maybe my head does as well lol. But is that taking a backward step. It wasnt pretty under KA but it seemed prettty efective at the time , and we enjoyed it as well, most of the time lol . But he is the manager at this point in time and for the club and the supporters sake , NOT HIS, I hope he turns it around

I suppose my attitude is you have to take the bad with the good , but i also respect other peoples thoughts and decsions as well .

oh and as for the seat as i dont fall into any of those catagories yet ill leave the seat open for you mate lol . i have a feling you will be there sooner than later , and i mean that as a mate lol

Not about winning or loosing is it, lets face it we rarely win do win.

Stopped reading as soon as he said he'd bought a season ticket at leeds. WTF! A couple o bad seasons and a manger you don't like so you clear off and support someone else? Pathetic.

We're a small club who'll struggle to have many seasons out of this league, without teh sort of investment the likes of P'boro, Notts and Rotherham have had. Some people need to be more realistic with their ambitions.

H'es hardly cleared off and just decided to support someone else. Dave, like me, also supports Leeds, where the football is better, the atmosphere is 100x better, the fans don't moan like @#$%& after a defeat, they stay and applaud the team etc etc.

Dave has infact been to all but 1 game this season I think (?) and his decision to watch Leeds more often is one I'm also making. I ENJOY it more at Leeds at the minute. Lincoln always come first, it's not quite the same at Leeds, but I would rather go to Elland Road than pay 20 quid to watch us lose 2-0 at home to Burton Albion

That's a good point, and one I've never really thought about. I'm an ST holder so I'll continue going, and away games too.

I can fully understand where others are coming from, and respect them for that, but it's punishing the Club we all support rather than the manager.
