Lincoln City will be playing Torquay United again next season after they became the last team to benefit from the Playoff Final curse that follows me around. Goals from Chris Hargreaves and Tim Sills gave the Gulls the victory.

I'm sure some of you are curious what the "curse" is. Basically, I have been to six Playoff Finals and the winning team has always been the one who's end I haven't sat it. It all started with Norwich losing to Birmingham City in 2002, followed a year later by Lincoln losing to Bournemouth and then two more years later as Southend also beat City.

12 months later and I wanted Shrewsbury to beat Bristol Rovers, a second minute goal being a false dawn as Bristol Rovers won 3-1. Last year's Blue Square Playoff Final saw Cambridge United lose out to Exeter and now the U's have lost out to Torquay. Maybe I should sit in the opposition end if City make the Playoff Final next year.

Cambridge United dominated the game early on but failed to really create any decent chances, with Scott Rendell, a man heavily rumoured to be on his way to City in the summer, wasting several chances. Chris Hargreaves then pounced with Torquay's first real effort as he smashed home from the edge of the area. Cambridge United died after this, not only in terms of performance, but also in terms of atmosphere as the Amber Army fell silent and quickly started turning against their players.

The second half wasn't much better and Tim Sills made it 2-0 before the end and it wasn't until Jon Challinor came on for Cambridge that they actually looked half dangerous, but it wasn't to be and Torquay United were promoted.

So if and thats a big if.

If we get in the playoffs next year can you sit i the other end. nice one.
