Imps dominate but lose.....again

The Playoffs are now officially out of reach, an undeserved defeat to Exeter now leaves City mathematically unable to reach the top seven and we're now definitely going to be in League Two next season. A Rob Burch on goal two minutes from time was the only time Exeter looked like scoring, but the Imps did have the consolation of another youngster making his debut. City started well with N'Guessan forcing corners and Scott Kerr trying his luck from 25 yards. A dangerous N'Guessan cross on 9 minutes was cleared before Exeter finally produced something just afterwards, although Harley would have definitely hoped to do better than a scuffed effort that was easily claimed by Burch. Despite that chance, Lincoln were by far the better side and N'Guessan was again left frustrated when his shot was pushed out by Jones on the angle.

A free kick on the edge of the area proved fruitless for City as Brown's effort was deflected wide for an inevitably wasted corner. Hutchinson's header was goalbound before it was brilliantly palmed around the post by Jones. Kovacs headed wide just before half time but that was the final chance of the first half.

McAllister headed wide for Exeter at the beginning of the first half but the chances early on in the second half were few and far between. Infact it was McAllister who had the next chance as his shot from a corner was very slowly cleared off of the line by Swaibu. Aaron Brown shot wide for the Imps before Adams and Ben Wright replaced Hutchinson and Horsfield and Adam's first touch almost led to a goal as he volleyed goalwards, again only a brilliant Jones save denying him.

Archibald-Henville was booked before Exeter took what was a relatively undeserved victory just two minutes from time. Dean Moxey tried his luck from far out, it hit the post and rebounded in off of Burch's knee and that was the last chance of a game that Lincoln had been the better side in, but had come out with nothing....the story of our season.
