Luton Town's relegation from the Football League was confirmed on Monday afternoon, making Football League history along the way, but that was the only movement in or out of the division. However, Burton could be less than 96 hours away from the Football League. Luton Town have become the first side in Football League history to be relegated for three seasons in a row. Their first game of the 2006/7 season was live on Sky against Leicester and the commentators stated that Luton were a good outside bet for the Premiership, in August, three years on from that day, they will be playing in the Premier League, but not the one they had hoped on. Their brave battle against relegation came to an end with a 0-0 draw with Chesterfield, leaving them 13 points from safety with just 12 to play for.

They have become the first side to be move into/out of League Two this season. Burton Albion could have replaced them on Monday, but their promotion to the Football League was postponed as they let a lead drop to lose at Kidderminster, however, it's now only Cambridge United that can catch Burton, but the Brewer will confirm promotion if they avoid defeat at home to Oxford United on Friday night.

The race for their likely fellow promotes looks set to rage on as now only four points separate third from seventh, with sixth placed Histon having games in hand on everyone. At the moment the ties would see Cambridge face Stevenage and Torquay face Kidderminster, but it is unlikely to stay that way , especially as Cambridge have played more games than anyone else.

In terms of who the Playoff winners will replace, Bournemouth have been sucked back in again and it's looking extremely likely that next weekend's tie between Bournemouth and Grimsby could inevitably decide who goes down. Chester, Grimsby and Bournemouth have just one point between them with three games to play. Although unlikely, Macclesfield could still be sucked in, but everyone else is realistically safe.

City's promotion dreams are now realistically over for another season, Chesterfield in seventh being five points ahead with just three to play. It would take an extraordinary run of results to put the Imps into the top seven, although Shrewsbury and Bradford still have a good chance, as do Dagenham and Morecambe due to both having games in hand.

The potential for a Lancashire derby final between Bury and Rochdale remains possible, whereas Gillingham are unlikely to not finish in the Playoff places. Brentford are still likely to finish Champions and then it's two from three of Exeter, Wycombe and Bury for those who will realistically finish in the top 3.

Despite winning on Monday, Cheltenham are still in a position where they will go down if they lose again this season. Hereford are in a worse position, needing to win all their remaining games to stay up. Brighton and Northampton are both three points adrift of Carlisle in 20^th, but both have games in hand, especially Northampton with two in hand. It's because of this that anyone from Yeovil in 16^th down can still theoretically get relegated, although realistically the only teams who will now be caught are going to be Carlisle, Crewe or Hartlepool.

I thought Northampton had had 3 successive relegations Nathan. Didn't they go from 4th division to the 1st division the then all the way back to the 4th in successive seasons?

I thought the same thing as well, so I looked into it and Northampton's was three relegations in four seasons. It was relegated twice, then finished 18th or something, before then getting relegated again.
