Another poor City performance still saw the Imps gain a point thanks to Anthony Elding scoring on his debut. City had taken a lead before Brentford scored twice in a few minutes. The Imps effectively stopped playing after scoring the first goal and it's certainly one of the more fortunate points that we'll gain this season.
City kicked off the game but it wasn't a fast start as McDonald went down injured early, Burch came out and caught the subsequent free kick. City responded well and forced Hamer into a mistake, Elding almost pouncing on the ball, only to see the referee give away a free kick. The Imps didn't have to wait long though as Scott Kerr uncharacteristically beat a few players and his ball found it's way to N'Guessan, the Frenchman turning and hitting a scuffed effort beyond Hamer and made it 1-0 to City.
Brentford appeared to equalise within a minute, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside, but it wasn't long before Brentford were legitimately level. A ball through wasn't dealt with by Hone and Bean ran through free on goal, slotting past Burch to give Brentford an equaliser.
Brown volleyed wide for City before Kerr had a shot blocked, that was a rare City attack as the visitors were easily the better of the two sides. It came as little surprise when they took the lead on 22 minutes. Hone was again guilty of poor defending as Dean Bowditch was allowed to shoot from far out on the right, the volley going beyond Burch and into the net.
City were poor and weren't creating much, only a long range Oakes effort really lighting up a poor performance. Then again the visitors weren't exactly brilliant. However, it was a worrying sign about how many times that they were getting in between our defence, especially Paul Green. Speaking of Paul Green, he went for the ball double footed and saw the subsequent red for dangerous play. Stefan Oakes appeared to unsurprisingly volunteering to be the player to make way for a defender.
Horsfield's shot from 30 yards was pushed out by Hamer and that was the final chance of the first half.
Frecklington replaced Oakes at half time and almost observed the visitors extend their lead, Burch producing a fine save from Poole's free kick. The game was going very quiet but then on the hour came arguably the game's turning point. Brentford got behind our defence yet again as Bowditch made way on the right, he unselfishly played it to the back post, only to see McDonald hit it over from mere inches out.
N'Guessan falling on the floor saw City fail to win a penalty before Ben Hamer produced a brilliant save to deny Frecklington's volley on the turn. However, it wasn't long before City's pressure was rewarded. Burch took a free kick and Horsfield headed it down to Elding, the former Boston man controlled it and hit it into the net to become only the second current Imp to score on his debut, the other being Adrian Patulea.
Brown had a left footed effort blocked before Hunt replaced Poole for the visitors. Frecklington hit a 20 yard free kick straight into the wall before Horsfield was replaced by Patulea five minutes from time. Frecklington had another effort saved by Hamer but City couldn't find a winner and took a point from a game they could have easily lost.
Because I'm a realist. I'm not like those who run Vitals who seem to think that promotion is guaranteed because Jackson is our manager. I look at the FACT we've lost more than we've won this season and that between our goals, Brentford had the ball in the net three times.
I'm happy to be positive when there's actually a reason to be positive, and the inevitable midtable finish isn't exactly inspiring.
Disagree with the the report in parts from were i was sitting i thought the 2nd half was very entertaning and the Imps were excellent with 10 men creating at least 3/4 goalscoring opportunities and endless corners.......
Elding very lively Freck creative and Horsfield got better as the game wore on....
To say the perfromance was POOR was harsh....
There was only one side going to win it towards the end and that was no the Bees
I dont go on Vitals so dont know what thats about... I dont understand why you have written the team off when we still have so much to play for, how can you predict what will happen over the next few months!!!! It must be a difficult job for you coming up with such negative stuff week in week out!!!! Try seeing the positives for a change, you might be suprised !
ln4_imp Disagree with the article, to play 60 minutes with 10 men, have more posession. 10-1 in corners in City's favour, more shots on/off target.
Sometimes I think you watch a different game.
Having all that means nothing as Brentford could have easily gone 3-1 up just at the beginning of the second half. Possession means nothing, it's what you do with the ball. Lincoln City corners are irrelevant as they ALWAYS go to either the first defender of the goalscorer and shots means nothing.
And just because you have shots it doesn't mean they have a realistic chance of going in. Go back to the Shrewsbury game for example, 22 shots but half of those came from Stefan Oakes shooting from everywhere, not one of the 22 shots looked like going in.
I've seen many a 'poor' performance over the years and todays effort was far from that .......... give me feckin' strength, after going 1-2 and losing Green, we produced a tremendous battling display and if it wasn't for 2 fantastic saves from their keeps, would have won it against one of the best sides in this division!
think in the current climate of doom & gloom Nathan, people are fed up of reading such depressing posts.. there was alot of good today, good battling performances, 2 new strikers who look like they can do the business... why are you the only one who cant see it.. do you just look for the negative when you watch?
Because, and I repeat a point I made earlier, between our first and second goals we switched off and Brentford scored twice, had a goal disallowed and missed an open goal. We could have so easily been 4-1 down by the time Elding scored.

You've got more of a chance if you're the ones with the majority of play than the opposition!
Nathan Jackson Because, and I repeat a point I made earlier, between our first and second goals we switched off and Brentford scored twice, had a goal disallowed and missed an open goal. We could have so easily been 4-1 down by the time Elding scored.
Yes but we weren't...... because of the great 2nd half performance that you have over looked....!! really think its time you supported another team, you seem to expect nothing less than perfection week in week out & when it isnt, you pick up on all the negative points.. I thought journalism was supposed to give a balanced account of events, not just focus on the negative..??
Ahh Nathan only listing the facts to suit his point, doesn't mention that we also missed chances and there keeper made two great saves... so it could of been 3-2 Lincoln going by your theory before our second. Goals are goals at the end of the day, you disregard points such as we had more possesion but the fact they had a disallowed goal means we were poor, so any facts that make us look poor count, but lets disregard that show us in a good light.
You make me laugh with your realist statement? I would say stubborn, not a realist.
harbymuskham Nathan - u r an absolute to$$er mate - if u r goin to report on the match try and give some balance - we out played them in the 2nd half period!
I think to$$er is a bit harsh really, although I disagree with Nathan he is just giving his view - which is surely the purpose of a message board like this.
it is what this message board is about & to call Nathan a to$$er is wrong... but as has been mentioned, i am sick & tired of reading pessimistic, negative bullocks.... We all know the stats & know when we havent played well, we dont need every error documenting!!!
Sure Sammy, but Nathan is probably the only negative voice I've heard on here reference the match today. If it is negative then argue your point against it. I don't think people should resort to playground name calling just because someone says something about a football match that you disagree with.
But second half was'nt we dug in played the better football and IMO was unlucky not to win it in the end. And that was with ten men. We did look alot better with that lazy c*nt Oakes off the field though. Fed up with him tbh, just stands in the middle and attempts hollywood balls all the time that rarely come off. Remember Brentford are no mugs they are up near the top and we were not outclassed, and i would hardly call the fact we got a point fortunate. We were unfortunate to not get 3 points.
Ok like i said on my post it was a battling performance and there is much to be optimistic about BUT lets not 4get they had one disallowed and missed the chance of the season . but its didnt happen and we got a point from a good side
sometimes its good to be a villa fan too!! didn't go today but if i look up the main 'facts' as in going 2-1 down with 10 men and coming back to draw 2-2 is fantastic for how good a side brentford are. We will be there or there abouts, as ive said before, theres no reason why we cant do what Bristol Rovers did 2 years ago.
Nathan is mearly expressing his opinion on the match, i agree with quite a lot of what was wrote, we was playing shite but for some reason when we lost a key man we trined everything around.
We switched offf between the goals we scored is pretty true actually, i can't remember us creating any chances (decent enough anyway) the only one i can remember was Brown being held back and being denied a penalty. Or the free-kick blasted at the wall.
Thank you for your reference to Vital Lincoln City Nathan.
Indeed we do try to engender an atmosphere of support for our team.
That is not to say we never criticise the manager/team/board, we certainly have and have had criticism ourselves for doing so, (If needed I can supply many links to critical articles, just ask).
BUT, overall we are supporters of the club and try to be supportive.
People, such as Sammy, who haven't used Vital Lincoln, should take a look, her feedback would be much appreciated by us.
At the end of the day, it is all about style, yours is to create controversy to grab hits to this site.
Ours is to remain positive in the main and let the site work for itself.
As we have gained an average of 3 million hits A MONTH, I think the proof of the pudding is in the eating as it were.
My suggestion is that people should migrate to the Vitals site if they want an enjoyable experience with some balance - far better site with true football fans not headline grabbers who clearly know very little about football but a lot about ego

I really enjoy this site & have made some good friends on here & think its unfair to say that folk on here dont know about football... there are some extemely knowledgable people on here i have found..... i may have a look on Vitals but will always use this site...
I think there is a place for both sites , and why not . As Sammy says friends and good friends can be made on both sites . And memeber should be allowed to express their opinions . Simple as that .
But i agree with Sammy its a bit unfair to say the people on this site or should i same some people have little football knowledge

I've always said that if you don't like this site then don't use it, and to be honest, I haven't seen many posts from yourself where you show any semblence of footballing knowledge. Plus, looking at your recent posts, you only seem to have the school-yard mentality of a 12 year old.
Infact, just did a search on your posts over the last month and you've only made five, four of which have been slagging me off, including the word "@#$%&" on one occasion (earlier in this thread). The other post was talking about how Jackson might have been right about Marriott.
So in other words, before you slag me off about not having any footballing knowledge, how about you spread some of your's about for a change instead of acting like a 5 year old when I write an article with an opinion that disagrees with your's?
You've made 14 posts on this website and the vast majority are you arguing with someone and then resorting to personal abuse when you don't agree with them. So come back when you've grown up and then maybe we can have a civilised debate.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a completely bad performance, you only need to read the reaction to see that, but it just worries me that Brentford got behind our defence A LOT yesterday. I would normally call it a one-off but the same thing happened against Accrington and Notts County.
Until we get a solid defence then we're not going to win enough games to produce a realistic push towards the Playoffs.
With playing a 4-4-2 the defensive line will be higher to squeeze the play. In a 4-3-3/4-5-1, the defensive line is deeper. It's just something teams have to do when playing a 4-4-2.
ooo look nathan being positive as usual. Nath as you like being positive, we've won more than we have at this point last year, scored more than this point last year. So I think we have improved in every way, no doubt try and find something negative to say.
I think we played well with 10 men and did well to get a point against a team who are 2nd in the league.
Nath, all you do is find negatives. I think alot of people are getting annoyed with your negativity, I do wonder why you even bother going.
Nathan you must have a pretty empty life to spend time doing extensive searches into my posting on this site - I have become increasingly frustrated at the extent of your negativity about the Imps and I don't think that I'm the only one - both on here and the Vitals site there is a concensus that your reporting needs more balance - if you think that yesterdays was a poor display I would prefer to have the more optimistic view of either a 5 or 12 year old compared to the more mature one that you obviously think you have got!
Just had a quick look on the brentford fans website and the majority on their saying that by the end of the second half it was them who were holding on. Just a point from Nathans report was that according to him they didnt even have a chance in the final 30 mins! Also rather than us been poor in the first half i think they were clearly a very good team, it was only when we went down to 10 men we seemed to get better and they got worse but overall i think a draw was a fair and good result. Nathan try be more positie rather than say 2 wins in 12 how about 1 defeat in 5 sounds a hell of alot better and 2 of the 5 are in the top 3!
For the first half I agree with Nathan. We were awful. Everytime Brentford went forward they looked as if they would score.
Best theing to happen to us was going down to 10 men.
With Freck replacing Oakes at half time, suddenly our mid-field became competitive, Brentford, who didn't really want to play the game anyway, were actually hanging on first to their lead and then for a point.
OK they should have gone 3 - 1 up but that was the only time in the 2nd half that they made their extra man count, it was City who created all the chances not Brentford.
It'll be interesting to see the starting line up for the next game.
