City on the verge of Horsfield coup

Peter Jackson could have achieved arguably the biggest coup in Lincoln City's history. He has revealed he is confident that Geoff Horsfield, an accomplished goalscorer in the top two divisions, will join City by the end of next week, citing a conversation he has had with the former bricklayer.

Horsfield joined the Imps a few weeks back on trial with the view to getting his footballing career back on track following on from succesfful surgery to combat testicular cancer. It's not the first time that Geoff has had a trial this season though, having had previous spells at Hartlepool and Walsall, both reportedly put off by Horsfield alledged request of £5,000 a week in terms of wages.

Speaking to Radio Lincolnshire, Jackson was optimistic that a deal for the striker will go through, hopefully before next weekend's trip to Morecambe.

That will come as relief to City fans who have seen their side struggle for goals near enough all season long. A fine example being that we had 22 shots on goal against Shrewsbury and failed to score, despite facing 10 men.

Please let this happen! Would be a great signing and must be progresing well in training if Jacko is going to sign him as soon as the window opens.
Cant wait to see him and Adi up front should be awesome.

Pity he isn't eligible for Boxing Day ..... just the sort of game that he would relish I'd have thought?

He's 35 and been out of the game properly for quiet a while.

Would he be a good buy?......It depends how much you are paying him and how quickly he gets back to match fitness.

very good signing he will be even at 35.
a GUARENTEED goalscorer. few teams maybe put off by his situation but jackson and co have seen what he is capable of in training and is a player that'll get fans interested

I think a gamble to be honest, he does need something to get his carrear back on track, well another 2 or 3 years left at the most, but i'd say he'll hang in the reserves trying to get fit ect, then maybe 2 months after the purchase him and patulea will be the best combination at sincil bank. Still i think he'll ask for a lot of money, i don't know if he'll even get back on fitness.

I agree Fillo. A big gamble. Also he is a bit head strong. So may cause more problems due to getting sent off etc etc. But if he signs and score 12 - 15 goals until the end of the season then bring it on.

Really felt we lacked a striker with his strength today! Pat & Mullarkey were simply outmuscled by Clarke and the superb Lee (who is far too good for this level)

Good player Lee, I was hoping we would have been in for him during the summer. Agree entirely about Geoff, we needed someone to occupy the centre backs - and rough them up a bit.

Heard a rumour yesterday he is going to play for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!! Just wants to play for the love of the game and give something back. Would be great if he did that.
We really could of done with him yesterday, the one thing we really lacked was a phsyical presence against there two giant defenders.
Rob was there any trouble yesterday heard there may of been?
Would be a huge shame if so given the history between the two clubs.

I think because of sheer physical presence and experience for a long time in the top two divisions he is exactly what we need right now,a gamble yes but didnt carlisle "gamble" with Bridges a couple of seasons back??
The thing with Horsefield aswell is he"s never forgot where he has come from!!Didn"t he give his first club 25k to keep them goin??
Don"t forget we have alot of young players with talent,we need some experience of success,perhaps something we lacked under KA??
