Lincoln City let a 1 goal advantage slip as the long trip to Exeter proved fruitless. City were controlling the game before a goal against the run of play brought the hosts back into it before an added on time winner, just minutes after N'Guessan had been sent off just before the end. The defeat extends City's record of losing more games than we win under Jackson.

Exeter were the first to press when Adam Stansfield fired wide before an Exeter corner was easily dealt with. A slow first half saw a few offside decisions but no concrete chances before an 18th minute trip on Saunders from Oakes gave the hosts a free kick. It was hit straight at the City wall, but a counter attack was quickly snuffed out.

Frecklington had a goalbound effort blocked from an Oakes free kick before LJL volleyed wide of Jones' post. The slow half was coming to an appropriately slow end as Hone was elbowed by Watson, the midfielder getting a yellow card for his trouble and that was the final incident of the first half.

The second half started with David Graham, making his first ever start for the Imps, seeing his shot go straight into Jones' arms. However, it wasn't long before he made his first major impact as a City player. He showed excellent control to beat off his marker, his shot was deflected off the goalkeeper and was backheeled off the line, LJL firing in the rebound for City's first goal in nearly 500 minutes.

A Stefan Oakes free kick went over everyone before John-Lewis somehow failed to score a second goal for the first time in his City career, hitting the post from an open goal from just a yard. Exeter counter attacked from this but it came to nothing.

Basham replaced Watson for the hosts but it was still the Imps in charge and N'Guessan had a great chance to extend City's lead. He was played through by Graham but his finish was weak and easily claimed by Jones. Oakes hit a 30 yard free kick wide before a double Grecians substitution saw McAllister and Murray come from for Stansfield and Saunders.  Within a minute and McAllister had gifted Exeter a rather undeserved equaliser when he headed in a Gill throw in.

Graham went off almost immediately for City and he was replaced by the returning Patulea before Brown replaced LJL. Exeter were now in charge and wasting a few chances but it was only when Moxey received an hoofed clearance that the game really went in favour of the hosts. N'Guessan tried to catch him and brought him down, being sent off for being the last man.

Moxey himself then provided the winning goal when he drilled low and hard past Birch following a McAllister through ball. It had been a winner that Exeter hadn't really deserved and sent City to a seventh game in all competitions without a win.
