Wycombe do City a major favour at Mansfield

Wycombe Wanderers did the Imps a major favour by thrashing Mansfield Town at Field Mill. A McGleish hat-trick coupled with an own goal from Jellyman condemning the Stags to a defeat. It now means that Mansfield have wasted one their games in hand and now rely on other teams to do them favours as they as Mansfield are quickly getting marooned at the bottom.

Mansfield went into the game 6 points behind the Imps with 3 games in hand, that of course meant that they could catch and overtake the Imps with 3 wins but unfortunately for them Wycombe had other plans. Behind as early as the 5th minute the Stags collapsed and Wycombe eventually running out 4-0 winners.

It now means that Mansfield are 5 points adrift of 22nd place Dagenham and Redbridge with only a game in hand over the Daggers. They could move within 2 points of Dagenham if they win at Chester and Dagenham lose at Morecambe. However, the big game for Mansfield is next Tuesday's home game against Wrexham, guaranteeing that City will be at least one point closer to the drop zone.

Of course Mansfield's failure to win was great news for the Imps. City have a month where we could pick up a lot of points as we're facing several of the teams facing relegation, whereas virtually all our rivals are facing teams chasing promotion.
