Lincoln City are preparing to do battle with Bradford City in the race to sign Nottingham Forest striker, Spencer Weir-Daley after he spent the season on loan at both clubs. It is widely believed that Weir-Daley will only sign for Lincoln if the Imps win promotion via the playoffs, whereas he has already admitted he will consider playing in League 2 for Bradford next season.

Weir-Daley (left) initially joined City on loan just before the end of 2006, making his debut for the Imps in the 2-1 defeat at Macclesfield, a side he had played for against the Imps this season.

He scored his first goal for City in a 2-2 draw at MK Dons just a week after the Macclesfield defeat and went on to score 4 more goals for the Imps before being unfairly dropped to make way for Jamie Forrester's return from injury. At the point he was dropped, Weir-Daley was the only in-form player for the Imps, making his exclusion from the side highly unpopular.

His final game for City was against Barnet, the last game City won before the final game of the season. He quickly joined Bradford City on loan as he helped them to try and avoid relegation, an unsuccessful venture.

Weir-Daley's contract is up at the end of the season with Nottingham Forest and he said when leaving Sincil Bank that he would be tempted to join the Imps if City won promotion, even if they don't he wouldn't rule them out.

A report on Bradford City's website states that Lincoln are still highly interested in securing the striker's signature. The report has several quotes though that seem to make you believe that if given the choice between a League 2 Lincoln or a League 2 Bradford, he would choose Bradford.

About Bradford, Weir-Daley said "Bradford will be seen as the biggest club and I've been through that with Forest. We used to go to small grounds and it was like a party atmosphere because everyone was geared up to beat Nottingham Forester. I'm sure it will be the same here."

He continued "Teams will get insprired when they come to the club because of the impressive stadium. They will want to cause an upset. Other teams treat you like a cup final, so you have to be prepared for every game. There are no mediocre matches because the sides will be desperate to beat you and you've got to stand up to that. But I can see Bradford doing that and comin back stronger."

The news that Weir-Daley's 2 chooses appears to be Bradford and Lincoln comes exactly 22 years after the terrible Bradford fire. The anniversary saw a tribute to the 56 supporters that died in that fire in Bradford, and it is believed that the Lincoln players will be wearing arm-bands tomorrow to mark the anniversary.
