Mark Patterson is looking to seal the signing of defender Paul Browne after it looked like the former Aston Villa and Raith Rovers man wouldn't make it to Hilton Park due to wage restrictions.

The original deal to bring Browne to Hilton Park hit some problems, and it looked to be off when Leigh signed Paul Shepherd last week instead.

But today Browne is set to meet up with Leigh RMI manager Mark Patterson and discuss a possible contract. If Browne does sign then Patterson will be looking to off-load a couple of players to balance the wage bills with the tight budget.

The Railwaymen are fresh off a magnificent 2-1 win against promotion-chasing Dagenham & Redbridge and Patterson praised the efforts of new signing David McNiven and loanee Neil Robinson, who performed exceptionally well together despite hardly playing together in pre-season. Patterson said he was suprised in the way they performed together in such a good way and praised the commitment and quality of finishing from the two, aswell as the rest of the squad.

Leigh RMI play their second Conference match of the season on Wednesday evening against newly promoted Accrington Stanley. RMI will be looking to win the game and build on their great start to the Conference campaign.
