Glamour friendly

Barclaycard Premiership side Blackburn Rovers will make the relatively short trip to Hilton Park for a pre-season friendly this July. The game against last year's Worthington Cup winners will take place at Hilton Park on Wednesday 30th July. Discussions are also taking place with Rochdale, Bury and Manchester City about possible friendlies.

RMI have been criticised in recent years about avoiding money spinning friendlies and only playing lower league opposition or occasionally local sides who are in the lower echelons of the Nationwide League. The only friendlies at Hilton Park that have been successes in the past have been against local rivals Wigan Athletic, who recently won the Second Division championship, who regularly drew crowds of more than 1,000 to Hilton Park for the historically significant Leigh-Wigan derby.
