Chetcuti, Richard

Promising striker, his main strengths being his pace and dribbling ability that saw him represent England Schoolboys Under 18 side in the Centenary Shield against the Republic of Ireland and also earn a trial with Premier League giants Chelsea, reaching the final five candidates on Sky's "Football Icon" programme in 2005.

Having made his first team bow against Vauxhall Motors in October 2007, Chetcuti's potential was underlined in May 2008 when, only weeks after receiving the prestigous title of being the club's best up-and-coming player following his inspiring climb through the club's youth and reserve ranks to reach the first team, he was awarded a full-time contract for the 2008/2009 season.

In December 2008, Chetcuti's hard work was rewarded with a call up to the Malta Under 21 squad, for which he qualifies through Maltese father Mario, ahead of their friendly with Denmark Under 21's in February 2009.

Having made the last of his thirty nine Leigh appearances in the Boxing Day loss to Witton Albion on 26th December 2008, Chetcuti left Leigh in February 2009 to join UniBond Premier League rivals Ashton United, though financial problems at Hurst Cross meant that Chetcuti spent only a week with Ashton before dropping a division to join UniBond League Division One side Warrington Town.
