Workington vs. Leigh RMI preview

The notion of a New Years 'derby' is thrown out of the window tomorrow afternoon when RMI face the arduous task of a lengthy trip to West Cumbria to face mid-table Workington for the third time in a matter of weeks on a day when the majority of their Blue Square North rivals only have short trips to neighbouring sides.

The sides last met only last week when two Mark Smyth goals in the opening ten minutes of the game went a long way to securing a vital 2-1 victory, but since then the form of the two sides has almost reverted to type, with RMI falling to a disappointing 3-1 loss to Stalybridge in Saturday's Hilton Park rain, while Workington scored two second half goals to secure a 2-0 win at Blyth Spartans.

Last season's visit to Borough Park brought an impressive 1-0 victory courtesy of a Steve Porter goal, and Leigh boss Steve Bleasdale will be hoping for a similar victory as he looks to regain some ground on the sides placed precariously above the relegation places.
