Rossendale United 2 Leigh RMI 2

RMI's unbeaten pre-season campaign continued on Tuesday evening with a draw at Rossendale, but they were given a mighty scare by their Unibond League hosts. Rossendale produced their best performance of their pre-season so far and were unlucky not to come out of the game with a victory. It was more like a November evening at Dark Lane with the strong wind, but 'Dale played some good football despite what some may have seen as heavy-handed tactics from Andy Nelson's young RMI side.

Joe Booth put 'Dale in front in the 6th minute taking advantage of some poor defending to score from ten yards. The lead lasted until the 24th minute, when a quick break from a 'Dale corner saw Leigh equalise through Chris McDonough.

Chris Brooks should have restored the lead immediately after half time but shot wide when clean through, and Phil Eastwood twice went close with shots from the edge of the box. 'Dale finally retook the lead in the 67th minute when Booth's cross got caught in the wind and drifted into the net off the far post.

Phil Edghill almost made it three heading narrowly wide, but the scores were level once again in the 80th minute, Adam Girdlestone’s neat finish from the edge of the area making it 2-2.
