Vuckic Signs Until 2016

Newcastle United midfielder Haris Vuckic has signed a five and half year contract, keeping him at the club until 2016. The 18 year old who has represented Slovenia at Under 17, Under 18, Under 19 and Under 21 level has said he is "delighted" with the new deal.

He told the official website nufc.co.uk;

"I've been here a few years now and am very settled, so it is good to get the deal sorted. I'd like to say to our supporters that as a player you will always see 100% committment  from me on the pitch. Furthermore I am relishing the opportunity of playing infront of you in the future as my career develops here.

I have seen first hand this season what fantastic and passionate fans you are and that really excites me.

I know I can progress at Newcastle and will only learn from spending every day around the sort of quality, experienced players we have here.

Playing against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal this season has been an incredible experience for me with the win at Stamford Bridge a real highlight."

Vuckic joins Steven Taylor, Nile Ranger and Mike Williamson, all of whom have signed long term deals over the last few weeks, as well as Hatem Ben Arfa who has signed permanently for the club earlier this week.

Can we start calling the 5-and-a-half year contract the Toon contract?

Good to have the lad signed up. His future looks bright at this point.

Many fan's are questioning the clubs decision to give out five and a half year contracts but I for one am pleased to see the club working towards the future. Players such as Carroll, Vuckic, Williamson, Steven Taylor, Krul and Nile Ranger are all players whom we could build a team around and so getting them signed up on long term deals can only benefit the club. For if we sell them, we do not run the risk of losing them cheaply, due to a contract expiring, while it allows us to build a team which the club can progress with. Arsenal have players sign a six year contract and I think its a good model to follow. Certainly am happy Vuckic has signed the long term contract for he looks to be a very good prospect.

he's been around the squad so long i was shocked to see he's only 18!

Its great getting these promising young lads signed up to long contracts but he really needs to be sent out on loan to realise the promise he's showing!
