Andy Carroll has not been named in Fabio Capello's 23 man squad for next weeks Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro. Carroll who wasn't named in the Under 21 squad due to being provisionally named in Capello's now named squad, was also dropped to the bench yesterday by manager Chris Hughton as Newcastle took on Manchester City.

Capello has favoured Sunderland's Darren Bent to provide cover upfront, as Rooney looks a doubt and Defoe and Zamora are both out injured.

Speculation that Carroll may have been on course for his senior debut increased when he was omitted from Stuart Pearce's squad for the Under 21 game against Romania on October 8th.

Pearce was said to be angry when last month Carroll pulled out of the England Under 21 squad with an ankle injury and Capello was quoted in the weekend tabloids referring to this;

He said:

"I have to speak with Stuart Pearce before deciding on Carroll. I met with Pearce and he told me there was a problem. I heard he had this 'injury'. We will see."

There are some odd selections this time round, with Kevin Davies (Bolton), Robert Green (West Ham) as well as a hots of players who have failed to make an impact in recent games.

Im quite glad Carroll hasnt got in. It would have been a boost for the lad but it would have done little to help Newcastle. Least there is a little less pressure on him and he can just concentrate on us.

Davis on the other hand. Decent player, hard worker, comes across as a nice bloke..... but I think he is around the 30 mark and just not a player for England.

Seems a weird decision, especially for the fact that all the young talent was going to be picked up, so it looks like we will be going for a 4-4-2 again as he will take the Hesley role.

but he is better than Heskey and is a grafter and I think he will do a good job, a real shame that he is 33 as you can't see him being around the euro's so in a way a bit stupid to pick him. I would have liked Carroll in a way to be picked

Its almost like a Football Manager computer game type pick!!! The plus side is that Carrol wont get injured with England.

He might not be up to it just yet but should have been given 20 minutes at least. I think Capello is a disciplarian and concerned with the squad image, so his court appearance is probably a factor. We still have others that should be consdidered but prob never will, Nolan in particular.

I'm not bothered by him not being chosen-he can rest through the break. Also, I'm not an England supporter really so I don't need to get upset over what this says about the manager the FA is too cheap to fire.

He really must choose AC (and some other young players) for the next friendly or he's a damn idiot.
