Newcastle United have clarified the purchase of Mike Williamson by confirming that a loan arrangement was in place to cover last night's game, but the 26 year old has infact signed a 3.5 year deal with the club. Williamson who made his debut infront of a home crowd and was awarded Man Of The Match has since given several interviews where he has taked about his 1st game.

He told nufc.co.uk;

"I'm delighted to get my move all sorted now and just can't wait for the next game at Leicester. My debut was a special occasion and it couldn't have gone any better.

I'm immensely proud to be a Newcastle United player and this is a very exciting challenge for me. Already I've really enjoyed my first few days at the club and I'm looking forward to many more."

He told the BBC;

If we can keep going and push us over the line then it will be a great achievement. Everyone knows this is not where we belong and the unity we're showing is great to get the club back."

Manager Chris Hughton also gave an interview to the official site, he said;

"Mike is a player who is a good age and still has time to develop. We hope this is the perfect platform for him to continue that development and we've seen already what he can offer with a very good debut performance.

We're delighted to get him on board and we hope he becomes an important part of our promotion campaign this season."

3.5 is a bit risky, I think 1.5 would have been wiser, but at his age I guess it's not all bad.

The thing is he won't be on stupid wages so if he turns out gash then it won't be the end of the day, rumours are it was just less than the million so quite easy to get our money back if we decide to sell

It is a strange one Tunyc as Kaboul has just left as well si if they kept him he would now be getting his game and would be a good player for them next year when they are in the Championship.

i think choices are a thing of the past for pompey just now. they are actually in the same position as palace, but the premier league are willing to shelter them for a period. the premier league themselves are the administrators, by any other name. pompey will be cut adrift at the end of the season, when they cease to be members of this exclusive, expensive, club

Pompey are not in a position to think of the future, all they can think about is who can we sell or get of the wage bill. There futures will be decided at the end of the transfer window.

They can't play James as if they do they have to offer him another contract, Spurs are sniffing around there defender and they will sell anybody who can make them money regardless of what happens on the pitch. They had there website temporary suspended as they didn't pay the bill, think it was something stupid like £2000

If they keep the players and try and stay in the premiership they go bust, if they sell the players and stay afloat they will be relegated and then go under.

Either way they are f@ck#d

Thought he did well today. Looked composed and fairly commanding. 2 clean sheets in a row...cant really ask for more than that can you.

he did look good joe, yes. we havent had anyone really pushing taylor or colo, maybe now that we have, we wont see either playing when not fully fit.
the squad is clearly stronger for this weeks business

The squad is looking stronger but if we go on today's performance we need more, not a dig at the new boys but the lads who have been with us.

Williamson started well but went a bit at times and got done by one of the forward a couple of times, who wasn't actually the quickest. Once everybody is fit then he will be a squad player and think in the premiership he could struggle as he would be against a top forward. But the money we paid for him makes him a great signing.

But then I do think he hasn't played a while and getting to know the players and the set up, so my view he can only get better. With the man of the match performance against Palace and an OK game to day he has suprised me as I thought he was going to totally sh@t.

a pair of centre halves divides into two, one of which plays the first ball in and the other sits behind to cover. the quicker of the two will usually take the role of coming forward and meeting the first ball. taylor does this well, colo is best at reading the play when the ball beats taylor - he is in position to stop the attack forming when taylor has been breached.
i dont know fitz hall at all, perhaps williamson is meant to cover/replace the slower colo rather than the aggressive taylor?
