Newcastle Sign Up Puma To Replace Adidas

In a week which saw Northern Rock PLC sign a 4 year contract with Newcastle United worth up to £10million, the club has also confirmed that they have also struck a deal with sportswear brand PUMA who will supply all training, replica and team kits for the next two years. Commercial Director of Newcastle United, Barry Webber, released the following statement;

"We are very proud to have entered into a relationship with PUMA. They are an ideal partner for us with the experience and ability to deliver a top class product for the Club and its supporters. With all its proven technical experience, innovative product design and support systems, we are excited about the future and look forward to a successful partnership."

Managing Director of PUMA UK, Tony Ward released the following statement;

"We are delighted to be embarking on a 2 season partnership with Newcastle United which will give PUMA great exposure throughout the football community. With innovative product, referencing Newcastle's strong heritage, coupled with great service, we are confident of an excellent partnership.

Newcastle United is a club with a passionate and loyal fan base and we look forward to the start of the new season and the new kit making its first appearance."

The news comes after Adidas indicated in December 2009 that they would be ending their relationship with Newcastle United and speculation mounted that they would be looking at Tottenham Hotspur (currently in partnership with PUMA) as an ideal replacement.

I like puma's stuff too, but these blatant schemes to get us to buy new shirts every other year are ridiculous.

Least they changed the brand and sponsorship logo at the same time. I would imagine the new Northern Rock one will hav PLC added to it

What it should have added to it, is give me the money back for my shares that you knicked off me you bunch of over paid bankers.

(bankers in prehaps this one and only case off me is not actually a typo)

I mean really they owe me and I'm quite bitter
