Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear will be kept in hospital under observation for a few days after being taken ill prior to Newcastle's 3-2 victory at The Hawthorns Stadium where they were hosted my West Bromwich Albion. He initially saw Newcastle medics who assessed him and sent him to hospital for further tests. The results of those tests have shown that he is okay. The 62 year old, former Wimbledon coach has previously suffered with a mild heart attack which caused him to take time out from football in 1999.

A club spokesman confirmed Kinnear's condition and Joe himself has released a statement thanking people for asking after him.

A club spokesman said;

"Joe Kinnear was admitted to hospital on Saturday morning after complaining of high blood pressure. He underwent a series of tests during the day and the subsequent results have shown he is okay.

As a precaution, Joe will remain in hospital for observation for a couple of days and will then be discharged."

Kinnear told the official website;

"I would like to thank everyone who has been asking how I have been feeling. Although I missed the game I had my grandson giving me a full commentary on the match.

It was a great win for us and I told Chris well done and to pass on my congratulations to the players when he came to see me on Saturday evening."

Derek Llambias has also given a statement on Kinnear's admission to hospital.

Good luck to him, not sure about him as our manager but I wouldn't want him to be ill.

Hope he gets better, i think that he is important to the survival race that we are in. I think that the lads respect him - not sure i agree - but still.

one of my posts yeaterday was just a bit of black humour, i do wish him well and hope he has a speedy recovery. and retires as soon as we're safe.

i'm not sure how much better anyone would have done, given the number of players unavailable on any given weekend. whenever we get one back, another two get injured, thats how it went on from day one for joe and i think he has done a decent job under the circumstances.
