Newcastle Slammed For "Robbing" Zamblera

Newcastle United FC have been slammed by the president of Palermo for purchasing Fabio Zamblera in January. The under 18 Italian International signed a 4.5 year deal with the club in the winter transfer window. The 17 year old, 6'3 striker had never made a 1st team appearence for his former club Atlanta and is rumoured to have gone to Newcastle for approximately £300,000.

President Maurizio Zamparini said of Kevin Keegan & Dennis Wise's first signing:

"It's a shame that they opt for the youngsters when they have the means to buy them when they are fully developed,

These clubs already have the best players in the world. It is wrong to rob these young stars from other clubs who live off growing talent.

It means that a club like Palermo take on a boy when he is 12-years-old, he progresses through the youth academy, then when he gets to 16 or 17 and can sign his first professional deal, he gets taken away.

The club that raised the player gets nothing. This is profoundly wrong. First of all you're harming the boys who are not ready to go to a different country and economically they are seriously harming the clubs in question."

Maybe if these small clubs pulled their finger out they would give the kids a reason to stay.

Not to jinx him, but truth is that most kids bought at this stage of their careers never actually make it to top flight football. So Atalanta could end up with 300K for a 4.5 rental of a reserve player-and then have the chance to pick him up on a free if they want! And how the f00k does this affect Palermo, anyway?
