A first half goal from debutant Danny Rowe secured a victory for the Imps that leaves them on 4 points after 2 games, the best start the the club have had to a season since 2006/7.

The Imps went into the game a point ahead of their visitors and Mo Fofana was dropped in favour of Danny Rowe, who had surprisingly been left out during the opening game after an impresisve pre-season.

Tomlinson almost gave the Imps an early lead after a Gray throw before Holroyd wasted an excellent opportunity to pen the scoring after a slip. Several Imps corners came to nothing before Newton hit a free kick well over from 25 yards out.

City were generally in control of the match and Taylor had to produce a fine save from a dipping Tomlinson shot before another succession of wasted corners followed. Tomlinson hit a shot wide before a great counter attack from the Imps saw Wright play in Rowe, and the former Manchester United striker produced a great individual goal, running 40 yards with the ball before coolly slotting it below Taylor.

After setting up Rowe, Wright was soon out of the game after he pulled up chasing a ball, with Bohan Dixon replacing the strikers. Tomlinson again hit another effort wide before Foster headed wide in a first half that the Imps were dominating.

A rare Macclesfield shot was easily saved by Farman to end the half.

Macclesfield were far brighter after the first half and forced a few chances early on but neither really came to anything. Infact, action in the second half was considerably slower than in the first, with several delays for minor injuries and scuffles between players.

Fofana came on for Rowe, who was at the centre of most of those arguments. Newton hit a shot go behind for a corner before Macclesfield had a goal disallowed for offside, and the Imps had a similar situation a few minutes later, with Bohan Dixon proving to be the unlucky man.

The game finished 1-0.

I think if we play with the energy as we did against Macclesfield and have a bit more luck in front of goal and with rebounds we should do well
