Lincoln City's first foray into the FA Trophy since the 1980s looms large as the third round qualifying draw has been made. The Imps will enter at the First Round proper stage with the game being played in December.

The Imps will enter the competition on the weekend of December 10th and will face one of the 23 other Blue Square Premier side and the winners of one of the 40 ties being played in the qualifying rounds. Eastwood Town and Sheffield FC are also within an hour of Sincil Bank.

Two potential fixtures that will stick out for City fans will be the prospect of a match against Boston United or Gainsborough Trinity. The Pilgrims have already won at home and away against Workington in the League, and will fancy their chances of progression, whereas Gainsborough have a tricky tie against a Hinckley side that recently knocked Darlington out of the FA Cup.

With qualifiers outnumbering the Blue Square Premier sides nearly two to one, the chances of a winnable tie for City are high, however, a drawer against a team from further down the footballing pyramid isn't necessarily a guarantee of a victory.

Amongst some of the more noticeable upsets were Chasetown's wins over Kettering and Grimsby, Blyth Spartans beating Fleetwood, Alfreton (then a Blue Square North side) winning 6-3 at Cambridge, Droylsden beating then BSP side Ebbsfleet and Salisbury beating eventual BSP Playoff Semi Finalists Wrexham.

Last year's competition was won by Darlington as they beat Mansfield 1-0 thanks to a 120th minute goal.

It is a bit strange that you have to effectively win three/four games to win even close to the amount you'd win just by winning the first round of the FA Cup.

It won't be Histon as they're going down to the might red army of Uxbridge Town!

I've watched and followed Uxbridge since 1960. I even played for them before I joined the RAF in 1966. I'd love to seen them at Sincil Bank. To be honest I'd even be in the away end! And I never thought I'd say that!
