Despite an improved first half, a woeful second half plunged City closer to the relegation zone and now we are truly in a relegation battle, sitting just one place above Grimsby Town. City didn't even manage to score by themselves in this game.  

Bringing Ian Pearce on, Chris Sutton's way of declaring that he's given up actually trying to get anything out of the game and just give his mate a bit of exercise. That's good in all, Chris, but some of us don't actually want to get relegated this year and would greatly appreciate if you could actually manage to win a game that was against someone from our division, or would that be too much to ask.

The fact that barely over 2,500 fans turned up for this game says it all, and unless things improve soon, this crowd, which is the lowest in any competition since the days of Alan Buckley, will continue to get lower.

The Imps had gone behind just before half time when the far-from-solid defence let Marc Richards through on goal. He plopped it over Burch and it trickled towards the line, Nathan Baker, who normally just boots it as hard as he can into the air, just allowed it to enter the net and despite City being the better side, City went into the break behind.

It could have been a different story but for a mixture of bad misses and fantastic saves. However, the biggest indication that things weren't right came early on when a Lichaj throw was headed onto the post by Baker, Facey somehow smashing the rebound wide from mere yards.

Fagan was the next to have a chance that was unlucky to go in as a free kick was laid off to him, only a fantastic save denying him. A near identical free kick saw Fagan's shot pushed onto the post. That was the final decent chance that the hosts had before the aforementioned Port Vale goal.

It didn't take long in the second half though for the Imps to equalise. A Lichaj throw into the box was dropped into the net by the Port Vale goalkeeper. City were now on the up but it the visitors went back into the lead against the run of play, Richards playing into Dodds, being a rare player, someone who has scored against the Imps after playing them.

City didn't really muster another chance and it was game over.
