Arguably the most controversial inclusion in the Top 20 players to have played for City over the last ten years is Kevin Ellison. After City resurrected his career, he made himself a hero in Lincoln with some brilliant performances, but then ruined it all in a moment of madness a few months later.  

Kevin Ellison may have only played for the Imps for a few months, but he made himself one of the most popular men at Sincil Bank.....and then threw it all away. Infact, Kevin Ellison has Lincoln City to thank for resurrecting his career. When he joined Lincoln City on loan in 2004, he was rotting in Stockport County's reserves and it looked as though he was probably going to drop into non-League football as the only clubs who had seemed interested before City were teams that low down.

It was evident from the start that Ellison was better than most than we already had and you could tell he had played at Premiership level. In his 13 games on loan from Stockport, he put in many quality balls and woke up City's slightly faltering form and into a run that saw just three wins during that spell. Keith Alexander tried to sign him permanently but he stated he wasn't interested in moving away from his north west home (we'll come back to this later).

He subsequently joined promoted Chester and was their star player. He came to Sincil Bank and received a warm round of applause from City fans, but was being booed by the end. City had led from Francis Green, but then a controversial free kick was placed in by Ellison and he subsequently ran over to the CO-OP Stand and started goading the fans who had chanted his name just a few months earlier.

Anyway, back to that not wanting to leave his north west home. It got to just after New Year and Hull City wanted to sign him, and despite Hull being further east than Lincoln, Ellison agreed to the move, it's hard to say what his motiv£$ were, probably the chance to play at a higher level. He left them for Tranmere and returned to Chester, now playing for Rotherham United.

Ellison was the most voted for person who played specifically in a left wing position.

Very consistent on the left side and got a great reception on his return what a tat when he goaded imps fans in the lower coop when he scored....But nearly got a career threatening inury when a Doubel M meat pie nearly hit him. We all know who would have come off worse - Be like being hit by a brick
