City thump hapless Farsley Celtic

Ben Wright opened the floodgates at the Throstle's Nest as the Imps stormed to a 5-0 win. Gary King netted twice with Scott Kerr and LJL also getting on the scoresheet in a game dominated by the Imps. It's a good result against a team who had remained upbeaten in pre-season up until that point, including facing full strength teams from League Two.

Grimsby had been the visitors to Farsley on Friday night and their first team suffered a humilation 3-0 defeat. It was the fourth win in a row on their own patch for Farsley, also beating supposed League Two "giants" Bradford City by 3-1 ten days ago.

Ben Wright got the scoring underway for the Imps on three minutes thanks to a through-ball from David Graham. Gary King doubled the least on 10 minutes when he headed in from twelve yards.

City dominated the game but had to wait until the second half to get a third, LJL converting a Stefan Oakes corner before Scott Kerr scored a rare goal after a great move down the right. City's deserved fifth came late on in the half, Gary King converting after LJL's effort was saved.

It means that City's first team are yet to taste anything other than victory in pre-season, scoring 14 goals in the three games.
