There are moments in football when you can tell by one performance where teams are heading, and today I saw a Peterborough side who are definitely on the up. The Posh dominated the game from start to finish with City barely managing to get any shots in at all, and in all honesty a 4-0 defeat flattered us as we could have lost by much much more.

Peterborough started their dominance of the Imps with a corner within the first free minutes. Former City man Dean Keates whipped in the ball but it was a wasted opportunity as the ball was cleared. Boyd and MacLean carved open City's defence when a ball from the former saw the latter break free of Hone. Marriott came out to meet him and got in front of the ball but couldn't prevent it going goalwards. It was heading slowly into the net before Nat Brown cleared under pressure from MacLean.

N'Guessan cleared another corner before Gary Croft stopped another McLean run on goal. Green cleared a Boyd header but it wasn't long before the hosts had the lead. Boyd was again heavily involved as he ran into the box unchallenged (how many times have we heard that season) and saw two of his shots parried by Marriott before one fell to McLean and he smashed how to give Boro a deserved lead.

Three Posh corners failed to trouble City before Marriott got down and tipped a McLean effort wide. Rendell almost connected with a Newton effort after Shane Clarke unsurprisingly gave the ball away.

Paul Green had to receive help after Whelpdale's arm got into his face. A rare foray into Peterborough's half saw the Imps create the first chance. Well, not really, Gary Croft swung in the ball and Craig Morgan rose unchallenged and headed it clear.

Hone was booked for a foul on McLean. The Peterborough striker was then left completely unmarked 6 yards out from a free kick. He thankfully headed over just minutes before Newton blasted over the final chance of a half that hadn't just been controlled by Peterborough, but had been well and truly dominated by them.

Louis Dodds came on for LJL at half time and within 10 seconds Paul Green had to receive treatment for several minutes. Green left the pitch for further treatment and within seconds the Imps were 2 down. Rendell squared a ball for McLean and the leading goalscroer in the division had no trouble popping past Marriott.

Frecklington replaced Green to a chorus of boos from Peterborough's fans before Boyds blasted over from the edge of the box. Within minutes it was three as Rendell squeezed the ball in from a tight angle to make it 3-0. 

Forrester replaced Pembleton, the youngster bringing a close to his first start after a less than impressive display. Six minutes later and it was 4-0 when Rendell again slotted past Marriott.

Forrester volleyed over following some confusion between Westwood and Morgan in a rare City attack. Marriott caught a Lee header. City started to come into the game when Dodds had a shot go behind. N'Guessan sent a shot straight at Morgan before Gary Croft sent a free kick at Joe Lewis. It was the first time all match that Joe Lewis actually had to do something.

Neither side created anymore decent chances and City had just been taught a lesson by an extremely good side.
