Match Preview/Team LineUps/Thread: Blackpool v Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United travel to Blackpool this afternoon for a Wonga battle two teams sponsored by the payday loan company go head to head. The game is Blackpool’s first pre-season game at Bloomfield Road and they have won two, drawn three and lost one in their previous six friendlies. Newcastle go into the game having returned from a trip to Portugal and travel on the back of one win, one defeat and one draw from their three pre-season games.

Newcastle are without their captain Fabricio Coloccini after he was sent off against Pacos de Ferreira on Tuesday evening. Coloccini ended up with his hands wrapped round an opposition players throat which lead to the referee sending off both players. The game was feisty from the start with several yellow cards also being dished out and resulted in Pardew claiming that the referee lost control of the game early on.

Also whilst Newcastle are said to have also resolved the issues with striker Papiss Cisse this week he has failed to even be named on the bench for today’s game after linking up with his team mates for training on Friday. He and Hatem Ben Arfa have been left behind to work on their fitness levels.

Pardew said earlier this week that he will be naming a strong side but will also be resting some players. He said;

“I will name a strong team at Bloomfield Road, but I’m going to leave four or five players behind to work on their fitness. But it will be a strong team.

Blackpool are two weeks away from the start of their season. They’re 10 days ahead of us. I think that will show. It’ll be a good test for us.”
