Turan To Swap With Emre?
By Tyne-Talk May 18 2008
More tabloid speculation this weekend with the news that Newcastle United are set to beat Middlesbrough to the signing of Arda Turan. The Turkish International who currently plays for Galastasary could be swapping places with Newcastle's Emre who looks set to go the other way this summer. The news is said to be hot gossip in Turkey with talks of large sums of cash on offer.
If true, the news will confirm the disappearance of Damien Duff who has reportedly put his house up for sale after being told he no longer features in the clubs plans and perhaps the 21 year old would be the ideal replacement.

Turan (and interestingly Emre's) agent Ahmet Bulut said this week:

"One club is talking to Galatasaray and asking them to name their price. If Galatasaray's request is met, the transfer can happen."

There is no confirmation as to who this club is, but the general consensus seems to be that it is Newcastle rather than Middlesbrough who were going on the recommendation of Turkish striker Tuncay.

The youngster was initially linked with both the Tyneside and Teeside clubs back in December 2007 when all rumours were stopped by his agent who said he was going nowhere till the summer and that there had infact been no interest from the North East. Now the summer has (officially) arrived things seem to be in full swing and Ahmet Bulut is a very busy man.

In December Bulut said:

"Of course he knows all about England, he has talked with Emre and Tuncay about this. He has also seen it on television as the Premier League is huge over here."

If Emre has said the right things, and the deal is a good one, Turan could be a promising signing for Newcastle United.

Sounds like a good idea as Emre is seen by many as the Turkish David Beckham.

As I said before if I am honest I cannot see Emre playing for us next season.

If Emre puts in a good word, the money is right and Emre gets the move he wants...everyone wins.

I'd rather not lose a midfielder, especially one of Emre's creativity. He's had a bad run with his calf injury, but with a good off-season and conditioning he could be a star for us.

We will have to be able to play 442 and 433 next season. Emre fits into those plans.

Emre's play can is a sight to behold at times, but he is most certainly injury prone. Also, given the types of injuries he's had, it's obvious that he conditions very little/poorly/not at all.

He's just not on the pitch enough. He's going, one way or the other.

I don't want another left winger Emre and N'Zogbia is more than enough for me

emre has had 4 managers at newcastle, and none of them have made him first choice even though he is clearly talented. inter also let him go at an age when he would have been ready for their first team squad. this says to me he is either a sicknote, who wont play when he feels less than 110%, or that he is lazy and wont train properly. he's had a chance, lets move on and find someone better

Re: Turan To Swap With Emre?
i don't agree with that.he has been first choice with roeder and souness.he just hasn't been fit all the time, but when fit he was their first choice.he did not fit into BSA system and he was getting ready for Euro 2008 and recovering from injury mainly when keegan came in.
inter let him go because they thought they had better midfielders at that time, whilst they let go of martins also at a young age, thats not to say he was a sick note or didn't want to play when not 110%.
i feel emre should stay, he's still relatively young and his best years could still be at the toon.

wasim mate, he's been here 3 seasons and started 63 games, but come on as sub 17 times. he hasnt been in the first choice team under any manager for more than a handful of games, or he would have started more of the 17 he was a sub for. 'injured' is a catch-all term for unavailable, and is used to stop the reporters asking questions in the pre-match press condference. if you say 'not-selected' it brings all kinds of unhelpful nonsense, if you say 'unavailable through injury' it stops the conversation. he's a great player, and he's always got the derby winner to his name, but i would cut our losses, particularly if there is a focus on getting the turnover to wages ratio down, as fat freds contracts were the fattest around when we got emre

i see your point and its a fair one, but his a match winner on his day, so i feel keeping him would be worth it, atleast for one more season. with barton in prison, we are going to lack depth in the centre of the park. keep hold of him for the time being is what i say.

aye, i would hope no-one leaves until we sign a few new players, and i'm already getting a bit twitchy on that front. lots of time, i know, but i'd like to see the first new one at least, before the training camps for euro champs get into full swing

Re: Turan To Swap With Emre?
yeah i agree with you exile.whats concerning me is that this past weekend we watched a few players, and were said not to be satisfied with what we saw, so another look at them would be needed. surely things like that should have been taken care of, and the list of targeted players should have been finalised by now. that of course could be an untrue story though. like you said at least one player should be signed up soon.

Right, nobody should be sold until we have a replacement in place.

Whether the reports of injuries have been true or not (and his early link-up with the Turkey squad certainly calls at least the latest into question) manager after manager have been unconvinced that he should be in the first team consistently. My guess is the reason is a lack of dedication to training.

Re: Turan To Swap With Emre?
part of the fun when the footy stops is to soak up all the transfer 'news', when we all know its guesswork at best, maybe the chairmen selling season tickets on the promise of big signings, or agents agitating for a payday at worst. i'm happy to go along with the fantasy stuff, but after last season it would be nice to have something of substance to chew over as well

Re: Turan To Swap With Emre?
Well I'll tell you one piece of speculation I'm seeing that will drive me away from paying attention to the silly season at all: Richard Dunne to f00king sun'lun.

This would be the fourth veteran, non-injury-prone, PL-experienced center half that the Toon has let slip through its fingers in the last few seasons (Campbell, Distin, Woodgate and now Dunne...five if you count Ben Haim).

Is it a mystery to the people who run this club what the problem with the squad is?

WE HEMMHORAGE GOALS!!!! We shipped them at a relegation rate last season. We need someone to anchor the defense, before we need another striker, before we need another midfielder or another prospect of any sort.

It will do my head in if we end up with another cut-rate, non-PL experienced center half (read Boumsong, Bramble, Onyewu, Rozehnal, Cacapa). Seriously, who was the last great center half this club bought?

This has to be more of a priority than it is; I'll be very disappointed if the new ownership f00ks this up.(Sm95)

i don't think dunne will go to sunderland personally, there are bigger clubs in for him (and i mean that mackems, we are after him after all) and also because the situation at city is not clear yet so until then i see him hanging on for a bit, as he is there captain. so tunyc don't get too upset just yet.

Re: Turan To Swap With Emre?
emre should definetly stay ...... clam on hes the only creative player from the centre midfiler bunch ..... even if we get some creartive players in in his position it will take them god knows how long to adjust and produce ..... if emre stays at least we got someone who is home in that position ....

and n e ways .... keegan will hang on to him and next season we will see emre at his best .....with euro 2008 hes gonna b one heck of a player .
