Giant Nigerian centre half Danny Shittu became Bolton Wanderers fourth signing of the close season when arriving from cash strapped Watford for an estimated £2 million fee in August 2008.
Shittu, a full international for his country, had began his career in 1998 playing non-league football with Carshalton Athletic before moving up to the league ranks with Charlton Athletic as a nineteen year old.
In just over two years at The Valley he had failed to make a senior appearance, but a highly productive loan spell with Wanderers Lancashire neighbours Blackpool in February 2001 helped to put him in the shop window.
Whilst with the Seasiders he helped them to promotion via the Play Offs but was unable to play in their final victory over Leyton Orient at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium due to his loan expiring.
In October 2001 he joined Queens Park Rangers on an initial loan spell and despite receiving two red cards for the club, including one on his debut away at Peterbrough, he was signed up permanently by the Hoops.
His strengh in the air and on the ground proved to be his biggest arributes whilst at Loftus Road and he chipped in with his fair share of goals, with seven coming in his first full season.
At international level, he missed out on a place alongside Bolton favourite Jay-Jay Okocha at the 2002 World Cup but did represent the Super Eagles six years later at the African Cup of Nations.
He became one of Aidy Boothroyd's first signings for Watford when they made their way back into the top flight in 2006 and one of his first appearances for the Hornets was against Bolton at the Reebok in a game which he gave away a last minute penalty.
Last season he scored nine goals for the Hertfordshire side as they made the Play Offs and this form alerted the likes of Bolton and Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers, the latter of whom had agreed a transfer with the player only to see the move break down over personal terms.
Shittu will battle for a place with the likes of Gary Cahill, Andy O'Brien and youngster Jarek Fojut.
