BWFC Academy In 2007

The Bolton Wanderers youth academy was set up in 1998 with the aim of producing some of the best football talent available. So far Kevin Nolan, Nicky Hunt, Joey O'Brien and James Sinclair have all made the step up to first team level at Bolton. Here we take a look at this years future hopefuls.

 

BROCKLEHURST, TOM

England U-16 international goalkeeper who played in the 2005 Adidas victory shield. Tom is now in his first full year as a youth Academy scholar.

BROOKS, TOM

29/09/1989 Bury

Winger who was a regular in the clubs U18 side and came from the Walshaw Sports Club. In the 2006-2007 season he made the step up to the reserve squad which won the 2007 FA Premier Reserve League North title.

BURNS, MICHAEL

14/09/1988 Widnes

Michael joined Bolton in 2007 after helping Liverpool to the FA Youth Cup finals. A midfielder by trade, he had been at Anfield for a number of years and had played for the Reds at numerous levels.

 

CARLISLE, MATTHEW

Bolton

Left back and first year scholar who hails from the Bolton area. Matt made his reserve team bow in February 2008 against Liverpool and aquitted himself very well.

CASSIDY, MATTHEW

02/10/1988 Blackpool

Matt broke into the reserve set-up at the back end of the 2004-05 season having made great strides at youth level over the previous year. He is in his third full year as a scholar and was still at school when he made his debut for the second string. Now a full Eire youth international he was on the bench for Bolton's UEFA Cup match against Red Star Belgrade.

CHARLESWORTH, MARK

26/09/1988 Preston

Young centre half who is a regular in the clubs Academy set up. Mark took park in a number of first team friendlies in his first two seasons as a junior player with the club.

GBEMIE, DAVID

19/12/1989 Liberia

Versatile youngster who can play in defence or midfield if required. David now lives with his auntie in Salford after moving over to the UK from Liberia when he was 11 years of age.

LAINTON, ROBERT

12/10/1989 Ashton-under-Lyne

Goalkeeper who has been on the reserves bench a couple of times throughout the 2005-06 season. He competed with the likes of Chris Howarth and Przemyslaw Kazimierzak whenever the likes of Ian Walker and Ali Al-Habsi where unable to play for the reserves.

MCDONALD, STUART

Kendal

First year scholar who made a couple of appearances in the Bolton reserve team which secured the title in 2007. He plays as a midfielder and scored quite a few goals for the U18 side.

MICHAIL, MARCUS

Cyprus

Cypriot U17 international who is in his first year as part of the Bolton Wanderers youth academy. Marcus was spotted as a result of the formation of the international youth academy.

MOOY, AARON

15/09/1989 Sydney (Australia)

Australian youngster who joined the Wanderers ahead of the 2007-2008 season from the Westfield Sports High School which also produced fellow Bolton player Scott Jamieson. Aaron plays as an attacking midfielder or striker.

OBADEYI, TEMITOPE

29/10/1989 Birmingham

England youth player who joined the club from Coventry City in 2006. He scored his first goals for the reserves in their 3-1 win over Newcastle United in April 2007 and this helped to seal the clubs first title at that level since 1995.

O'HALLORAN, MICHAEL

Glasgow

Scottish forward who hails from Glasgow and is in his first year with the Bolton academy. 

SHERIDAN, SAM

30/11/1989 Stockport

Prolific striker who has been impressing for the U-18 side recently. Sam is the nephew of former Wanderers midfielder John Sheridan, who was part of the side which won the 1997 First Division championship.

STOKES, CHRISTOPHER

Trowbridge

Left back who joined the club's Academy ranks in 2005 following a spell at Bristol Rovers. Christopher is on a three year contract with Bolton and will begin his scholarship with the club in the 2007-2008 season.

THOMPSON, LESLIE

03/10/1988 Newham

London-born striker or winger who is in his Third year with the Bolton Youth Academy. Once of Arsenal Leslie has had spells out on loan with Stockport County and Torquay United whilst with the Wanderers.

WARD, Danny

Bradford

Exciting prospect who was recruited from Leeds United in the summer of 2007. Danny is a striker who can also play out on the left if needed and he is making good strides during his early days at the club.

WOLZE, KEVIN

09/03/1990 Wolfsburg (Germany)

 Kevin is a German youth international who previously played for VFB Wolfsburg. Wanderers had to beat off a number of clubs to get his signature. (more info about Kevin's Bolton adventures can be found here http://www.frank-plagge.privat.t-online.de/KevinWolze/KW_Tagebuch.htm)

In the summer of 2007, Kevin helped his native Germany to the Semi Finals of the World Youth Cup.
