BWFC Academy In 2007

The Bolton Wanderers youth academy was set up in 1998 with the aim of producing some of the best football talent available. So far Kevin Nolan, Nicky Hunt, Joey O'Brien and James Sinclair have all made the step up to first team level at Bolton. Here we take a look at this years future hopefuls.

 

BROCKLEHURST, TOM

England U-16 international goalkeeper who played in the 2005 Adidas victory shield. Tom is now in his second full year as a youth Academy scholar.

BURNS, MICHAEL

14/09/1988 Widnes

Michael joined Bolton in 2007 after helping Liverpool to the FA Youth Cup finals. A midfielder by trade, he had been at Anfield for a number of years and had played for the Reds at numerous levels.

 

BENNETT, RHYS

 

Defender Rhys is a first year scholar for the 2008-09 season.

CARLISLE, MATTHEW

Bolton

Left back and first year scholar who hails from the Bolton area. Matt made his reserve team bow in February 2008 against Liverpool and aquitted himself very well.

ECKERSLEY, Tom

06/12/1991

Young centre half who is in his first year with the Bolton Academy. Tom played for the club in their friendly against Macclesfield Town in July 2008.

GBEMIE, DAVID

19/12/1989 Liberia

Versatile youngster who can play in defence or midfield if required. David now lives with his auntie in Salford after moving over to the UK from Liberia when he was 11 years of age. In 2007-08 he was called up to the full Liberian national team.

LAINTON, ROBERT

12/10/1989 Ashton-under-Lyne

Goalkeeper who has been on the reserves bench a couple of times throughout the 2005-06 season. He competed with the likes of Chris Howarth and Przemyslaw Kazimierzak whenever the likes of Ian Walker and Ali Al-Habsi where unable to play for the reserves.

MCDONALD, STUART

Kendal

Second year scholar who made a couple of appearances in the Bolton reserve team which secured the title in 2007. He plays as a midfielder and scored quite a few goals for the U18 side.

MICHAIL, MARCUS

Cyprus

Cypriot U17 international who is in his first year as part of the Bolton Wanderers youth academy. Marcus was spotted as a result of the formation of the international youth academy.

MOOY, AARON

15/09/1989 Sydney (Australia)

Australian youngster who joined the Wanderers ahead of the 2007-2008 season from the Westfield Sports High School which also produced ex-Bolton reserve player Scott Jamieson. Aaron plays as an attacking midfielder or striker.

OBADEYI, TEMITOPE

29/10/1989 Birmingham

England youth player who joined the club from Coventry City in 2006. He scored his first goals for the reserves in their 3-1 win over Newcastle United in April 2007 and this helped to seal the clubs first title at that level since 1995.

O'HALLORAN, MICHAEL

Glasgow

Scottish forward who hails from Glasgow and is in his first year with the Bolton academy. 

SHERIDAN, SAM

30/11/1989 Stockport

Prolific striker who has been impressing for the U-18 side recently. Sam is the nephew of former Wanderers midfielder John Sheridan, who was part of the side which won the 1997 First Division championship.

SONG, Yang

18/03/1989 China

Yang Song is on a year long development contract with the Academy after finishing third place in the Chinese reality TV show "Soccer Prince". Everton and Nottingham Forest are also taking on lads who took part in the competition.

Midfielder Grant is in his first year with the Bolton academy

STOKES, CHRISTOPHER

08/03/1991 Trowbridge

Left back who joined the club's Academy ranks in 2005 following a spell at Bristol Rovers. Christopher is on a three year contract with Bolton and will begin his scholarship with the club in the 2007-2008 season.

WARD, Danny

Bradford

Exciting prospect who was recruited from Leeds United in the summer of 2007. Danny is a striker who can also play out on the left if needed and he is making good strides during his early days at the club.
