Gary Megson brought former Dutch U21 international Mustapha Riga to Bolton Wanderers in July 2008 when it became apparent that the player was on his way out of relegated Spanish club Levante.
Riga signed a three year deal with the Wanderers after scoring 10 times for the Spanish club in the 2007-08 campaign and being one of their more consistent performers.
Levante had not paid Riga for eight months due to a financial crisis and therefore the former Vitesse and Sparta Rotterdam player was eligable to leave on a Free Transfer.
Beginning his career with Vitesse a decade ago, Riga was in and out of the side and managed just one goal in 31 games for the club and spent an eight game loan spell with RBC Roosenvelt in 2000.
In 2003 the player made the move to Sparta Rotterdam and whilst at the Het Casteel he started to show great adaptability when either operating out wide or down the centre.
His pace posed huge problems for opposing defences and in the 2004-2005 season he scored a remarkable 22 goals in the campaign earning him a summer move to La Liga.
With Levante he was less prolific but his goal tally over the last three years has been of a decent standard nevertheless, and he has played against a lot of powerful teams such as Real Madrid, Villareal and Barcelona.
