Goal Hero Vaz-Te
The Portuguese youngster was the matchwinner in the weekend win over Tranmere Rovers and he repeated that success against Ernesto Valverde's La Liga outfit tonight.
Bolton gave home debuts to Gerald Cid, Danny Guthrie and Jlloyd Samuel with youngster James Sinclair making his first senior appearance at the Reebok when replacing Nicky Hunt at right back.
Kevin Nolan, Gary Speed and Nicolas Anelka sat on the substitutes bench in the first half as did the Trotters new signings Mikel Alonso, Gavin McCann and Heidar Helguson.
Ironically it was a Spaniard on the Bolton team who had the first chance of the game when the experienced Ivan Campo fired over the crossbar within the first couple of minutes.
Espanyol captain Raul Tamudo then greased the palms of Wanderers keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen moments later but the header from the experienced striker was comfortably gathered by the Finnish international.
El-Hadji Diouf and Campo again forced the visiting goalkeeper Gorka Irzizoz to be alert but there was nothing the custodian could do about Ricardo Vaz-Te's opener on 21 minutes.
Abdoulaye Faye launched a deadly ball into the box and Vaz-Te duly converted with his head for his second goal of the week so far to give the Trotters the lead.
The on-loan Danny Guthrie then combined well with El-Hadji Diouf but the England youth international was unable to trouble Irzizoz with his curling effort.
Vaz-Te nearly got on the scoresheet again with just over ten minutes of the half remaining, however a wicked deflection denies the young winger another goal.
It had been a quiet half for Espanyol in front of goal but they made Jaaskelainen work a couple of times in the closing moments of the half, the first coming when Luis Garcia's header was expertly blocked by the long serving Scandanavian.
Five minutes before the interval the Wanderers doubled their advantage thanks to Vaz-Te again. This time he unleashes a lethal shot on the turn past Irzizoz after Kevin Davies had nodded on James Sinclair's throw in.
Both teams made a number of changes with Bolton bringing on captain Kevin Nolan, star striker Nicolas Anelka, new signing Mikel Alonso and reserve goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.
Al-Habsi was the first goalkeeper called into action in the second period with the Oman international comfortably gathering Tamudo's effort.
It was Al-Habsi's first piece of action at club level since serving his country in the Asia Cup earlier on this summer and Wanderers manager Sammy Lee will be delighted that both his goalkeepers kept clean sheets during the evening.
Espanyol had goalkeeper Irizoz to thank on the hour when he denied substitute Anelka from latching on to a good through ball by Alonso.
With twenty minutes of the game to go former Manchester City winger Albert Riera wasted a good chance to test Al-Habsi when firing wide and this summed up the visitors evening as a whole.
The experienced Tamudo lead from the front for Espanyol but even he could not inspire his side to get a goal as he was foiled by fellow countryman Campo when en-route to goal.
Anelka saw his shot blocked as the game ticked down but the Frenchman's free kick lead to Gary Speed heading home the winner with just five minutes to go.
Bolton's final pre-season fixture sees them head to Essex this coming Saturday to take on Geriant Williams Colchester United team at Layer Road.
