Tranmere Rovers Post Match Reaction
By Mark Heys July 28 2007
Wanderers manager Sammy Lee confirmed that star striker Nicolas Anelka was absent from the game at Prenton Park due to a recurring foot injury despite speculation which linked the French striker with other clubs.

Lee on Anelka absence and transfer speculation

"We have not received any offer for the services of Nicolas Anelka, We are well aware of the speculation about him, but he was rested for today's game due to a recurrence of a foot injury which he sustained in Korea last week.

"We did not want to risk him by playing him today. It is all about getting him fit and ready for the Newcastle United game next month. If he his fit he will play against Espanyol on Wednesday, but we will only play him if he is fit to do so.

"We also left out Abdoulaye Faye and Ivan Campo because they are on specific training programmes which are tailored for individual players. We know exactly how many minutes each individual must play and when they must rest. This all down to our attention to detail on every aspect of our game."

Lee on rumours linking Abdoulaye Faye with a £1.5m move to Wigan

"We have not had an offer from Wigan for Abdoulaye Faye. I speak to Chris Hutchings all the time and I know they haven't made an offer for the player."

Lee on Tranmere win

"This was another excellent workout for the team, Tranmere gave us an excellent game. They worked hard throughout and made it tough for us. The win is very pleasing, but the main thing is that the lads are progressing well before we get underway for real next month.

"The match fitness is coming together now and we are very pleased with the attitude and application of all the players. We are making a few subtle changes, especially to our system. This takes time to bed in. Hopefully by the start of the league season every player will know what is expected."

Lee on Ricardo Vaz-Te's contribution and goal

"We all know of the capabilities of Ricardo. He has immense talent.I just want to give him the platform for him to do it on a consistent basis. All we ask of him is to be positive and continue going forward and get at defenders. If he does that he will score plenty of goals
