The Wanderers have claimed a possible four points from six over their last two games against Seongnam Ilhwa and Chivas Guadalajaro, so three more points against Racing would help to put some distance between themselves and the other qualifying contenders.
A draw may also be enough for the Trotters but that depends on what happens in the other Group A game between Chivas and Seongnam Ilhwa.
Bolton boss Sammy Lee is definately without Ricardo Gardner and Blerim Dzemaili for this tie but Stelios Giannakopoulos could be in line for his first appearance of the pre-season.
Youngster Zoltan Harsanyi will hope to keep his place in the Bolton starting line up after appearing in the last two games and scoring against Chivas at the weekend.
Racing Santander currently lie bottom of the Group A after suffering mixed fortunes in this tournament so far. Their opening game was a 5-0 hammering against Chivas and their next fixture was a goalless draw against Seongnam Ilhwa.
Former Bolton target Nikola Zigic is part of the Santander squad as is the experienced former Spanish international attacker Pedro Muntinis.
After this tournament is over Bolton will head back to the UK for three away friendlies against Hibernian, Tranmere Rovers and Colchester United.
A trip to the Reebok Stadium is also planned for Santander's league rivals and UEFA Cup finalists Espanyol at the start of August.
