Chivas Guadalajaro 0 Bolton Wanderers 2.

Second half goals from Zoltan Harsanyi and Kevin Nolan gave Bolton Wanderers a deserved 2-0 win over Mexican side Deportivo Chivas Guadalajara at the Daegu World Cup Stadium on Saturday.

The victory over the Mexicans is Sammy Lee's first three points as a manager and although only a pre-season friendly this result will almost certainly do the Wanderers chances of progression in this tournament no harm at all.

Lee made a number of changes to the side which drew with Seongnam Ilhwa in midweek with Lubomir Michalik, James Sinclair and Ivan Campo coming in for Gerald Cid, Gavin McCann and Kevin Nolan.

Bolton could not name a substitute goalkeeper on the bench because Ian Walker was still troubled with a back problem, Ali Al-Habsi is on Asia Cup duty with Oman and youngster Przemyslaw Kazmierzczak is ineligable to play despite Wanderers best efforts to get him registered for the competition.

Nicolas Anelka and Ricardo Vaz-Te where named in reserve and both got late chances to impress the management ahead of Tuesday's final Group A game against Racing Santander.

The first quarter of the game saw both team trying to set the tempo of the match and on 11 minutes the Trotters had the first real chance of the game when Chivas goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera kept out Kevin Davies header after good work down the left by new boy Jlloyd Samuel.

A few minutes later veteran midfielder Gary Speed tried to nod Nicky Hunt's free kick into the path of captain Davies but the big forward was unable to get on the end of the final ball.

Bolton where finding their feet in the mid point of the first half with the on loan Danny Guthrie making an incisive break on the left but unfortunately his final shot was cleared with ease by Chivas.

Young midfielder Omar Arellano then had two chances in quick succession for the Mexicans. The first was a rather hopeful shot from distance which went well wide and the second was a half chance that went begging following a mix up in by Nicky Hunt the Bolton defence.

Just before the half hour mark some good team play involving Hunt and James Sinclair nearly paid dividends for Speed who almost got his head on the end of the resulting right wing cross.

Arellano was once again causing Bolton problems and on 31 minutes he had a glorious chance to open the scoring when finding himself in a one on one situation with Jaaskelainen.

Fortunately for the English side their big Finnish goalkeeper proved once again why he is considered to be one of the best custodians around at the moment by producing a fine stop.

Eight minutes before the break Chivas went on the offensive again when a cross by Xavier Baez was met by Antonio Salazar, again with Jaaskelainen saving well.

At the half time interval Bolton brought on their regular captain Kevin Nolan for Gary Speed and within a minute of the re-start the UEFA Cup hopefuls broke the deadlock through Zoltan Harsanyi.

Davies lay off caused a commotion in the Chivas backline and Harsanyi beat two defenders before rounding Talavera for his first goal for the club at senior level.

Chivas wheren't the only ones to show uncertainty in defence with Bolton thanking Jaaskelainen once more after Hunt's wayward header back to his goalkeeper could have caused problems.

Three minutes before the hour Bolton combined well with yet another good team move. Campo played in a free kick from the left, substitute Nolan headed the ball back across goal and striker Davies produced an acrobatic attempt which goes just wide.

At this point the game was still very open and both sides made changes with Bolton's Gerald Cid coming on for Abdoulaye Meite and Chivas sending on Jesus Padilla in place of Antonio Salazar.

Bolton had to be wary of Padilla as it was he who put the sword into Spanish side Racing Santander earlier on in the week with two well taken goals.

Jaaskelainen made yet another save from the effective Arellano on 62 minutes but Wanderers found some extra energy in the final quarter to put the game beyond doubt.

Gavin McCann and Ricardo Vaz-Te where introduced for the Wanderers and both almost made an immediate impact as the former combined with the latter to force a good save out of Talavera.

Xavier Baez volleyed the ball over Jaaskeainen's crossbar for Chivas and this miss proved to be costly as Bolton found the killer goal thanks to an excellent effort from distance by Kevin Nolan on 77 minutes.

Nolan took his tally to two goals in a week when belting home a low volley from 25 yards to wrap the game up and the club captain nearly got on the scoresheet again with a neat chip.

Bolton had to play out the final minutes of the game with ten men after James Sinclair left the field through injury and the Trotters had used up their full quota of changes.

Nevertheless this was an efficient performance by the Wanderers and it bodes the club well for their third and final group game against Santander early next week.

Good goals!

We are looking quite good at the moment.

Hope we can carry it on into the season, particularly the first game!
