Leigh RMI 0 Exeter City 1

By Matt Lawton
February 20 2005
RMI were sent tumbling to yet another defeat as FA Cup heroes Exeter boosted their bid for the play-offs with victory at Hilton Park.
Boosted with the debut of defender Chris Clarke, on loan from Halifax Town, RMI started the brightest, with a solid back four providing the foundation for the hosts to almost take a shock lead against their promotion-chasing opponents, with Clarke close to having a dream start to his RMI career when his goalbound attempt was bravely blocked by Gary Sawyer.

Such is the quality of the Devonian visitors that, in sharp contrast to RMI, they're deadly in front of goal and only need one chance to punish you. That chance came just after the half hour mark when Sean Devine rather fortuitously managed to get the ball past RMI goalkeeper James Mann despite scuffing his shot.

As RMI pushed on for an equaliser, they were lucky not to be caught out at the back as Clarke dragged down Devine, only for the referee to wave away the penalty claims of the visitors.
