Previous manager Geoff Lutley managed just a point during his three month reign as RMI manager, and his replacement Steve Bleasdale got off to the best possible start as he made his debut in the RMI dug-out, with a never-say-die performance that finally clawed out a rare point for the Railwaymen.
In a poor match served up by undoubtedly two of the worst sides to have graced the Conference in recent years, RMI were looking like they might fall to yet another defeat, despite doing everything except actually score.
The visitors started brightly and Rovers 'keeper Steve Perrin was forced in to action on several occasions early on, having to save from Michael Reed, Lee Shillito and Mark Drew, while RMI goalkeeper James Mann was tested by a Mark Beesley strike from long distance, before on-loan Rovers striker Kevin Rapley almost marked his debut with a goal, smashing the ball against Mann's crossbar from distance.
For the second week in succession, all the work done in a promising first half from RMI was undone directly from a free kick, with Beesley following the trick of Andy Bishop for York last weekend to fire the ball past Mann in to the corner of the net.
Rapley missed a chance to seal the victory for the hosts when he smashed against the crossbar for a second time, and he was made to rue his miss with just five minutes left when a defensive mix-up allowed substitute Ian Taylor to capitalise and head the ball in to the empty net for his first senior RMI goal.
