As torrential rain, hail and a gale force wind (which blew the rain straight in to the faces of the travelling RMI fans!) pelting Wincham Park, the home of Vics' local rivals Witton Albion, the pitch became little more than a lake, reducing the match to a farce as both slides slid around on the waterlogged field whilst trying to cope with the wind.
The adverse weather conditions dashed RMI's hopes of their first victory in seventeen league games, which looked on the cards after they led 2-1 at half time before the decision to abandon the match was made by the match referee.
RMI took an early lead when Ben Ashmole, who had had a goal harshly disallowed for offside only minutes earlier, turned smartly on the edge of the six yard box to smack the ball home following Andy Roscoe's corner, before John Allan's header quickly restored the hosts to level terms.
Gary Williams scored an excellent counter-attacking goal as he superbly slid the ball in to the bottom corner past the on-rushing goalkeeper from the edge of the area after a sublime through ball put him clean through, but the result will not stand and the sides will meet again at Wincham Park on a date that has yet to be finalised.
