Leigh went in to the game rejuevenated after last week's shock victory at Lancashire rivals Accrington Stanley gave them a surprise passage in to the First Round of the FA Cup, and RMI were confident of winning their second game in succesion as a result.
That confidence was justified early on and it took only eight minutes for the hosts to get on the scoresheet when former Bury midfielder Lee Connell headed home his first ever goal for RMI on what was his league debut for the Railwaymen.
That lead was doubled after 26 minutes when Gary Williams volleyed home his second goal of the season, with RMI cruising at two goals to the good.
However, that lead disappeared when, with twenty minutes remaining, former West Bromwich Albion legend Bob Taylor, well known in this parts after a successful spell at Bolton Wanderers a few years ago, forced home Marcus Ebdon's corner to equalise for the Lambs, three minutes after halving the deficit with a twenty-five yard screamer.
Seven minutes later and it was heartbreak for RMI as ten minutes of chaos in the Leigh defence was compounded by Taylor heading home his hat trick with thirteen minutes remaining on the clock.
