Canvey Island 3 Leigh RMI 0

By Matt Lawton October 25 2004
A depleted Leigh RMI's first ever visit to Canvey Island ended in a heavy defeat to the Conference newcomers after the Leigh side was decimated by illness.
Such was the extent of the 'flu and mumps virus sweeping through the Leigh camp, RMI didn't even have enough players to fill the full quota of five substitutes, and had to field no less than four debutants.

Two goals in quick succession undid RMI after some early resistance, with Ollie Berquez's header breaking the deadlock after half an hour, before Jon Keeling made it 2-0 just two minutes later.

Junior McDougald sealed the victory in the dying minutes, putting the ball in the net past Paul Crichton from close range.
