Chorley 4 Leigh RMI 1

By Matt Lawton February 4 2004
A dismal defeat for RMI saw their hopes for Lancashire FA Marsden Trophy glory ended for another season, with the holders unceremoniously dumped out by former manager Mark Patterson and his Chorley side.
A make shift RMI side fell to an embarrassing hammering at Victory Park on Tuesday evening as the holders were dumped out of the Marsden Trophy.

RMI came up against their former manager in the shape of former Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United midfielder Mark Patterson, and the manner of his side's performance was unrecognisable from the sort of performances that his side's had put out during his time at Hilton Park.

His side had everything that had been lacking while Patterson was in the Hilton Park hot-seat. They had passion, commitment, drive and effort, and there was also a noticeable lack of journeyman players in the Magpies' side, something which he was reknowned for during his time at RMI.

RMI's only goal came through the returning former Blackpool hard man Wayne Maden, with young defender Neil Coyne impressive on his first team debut.

Big changes are needed if RMI are to win three points in their do-or-die Conference relegation six-pointer at Tamworth on Saturday.
