Forest Green Rovers 2 Leigh RMI 2

By Matt Lawton November 29 2003
The tables were turned on RMI this afternoon when it was they who scored a late equaliser, as opposed to the usual scenario of it actually being Leigh who concede late on, not their opponents.
RMI travelled to Gloucestershire full of hope after a run of good performances in recent games which belied their league position, and the travelling support were hopeful of a vital three points when David McNiven scored after an hour of play.

However, the hosts quickly equalised through Alex Sykes, who fired the ball past Gary Kelly in the RMI goal.

RMI seemed to be heading to an unfortunate defeat when Alex Meechan hit the net with barely six minutes remaning, and it seemed RMI's late-goal curse would strike again, a problem which has inexplicably dogged RMI for several seasons.

However, RMI were given a golden opportunity to equalise when they were awarded a penalty in stoppage time. Midfielder Warren Peyton, has has been in exceptional form in recent form, stepped up to take it, only for it to be saved by the Rovers goalkeeper. However, the former Yeovil Town midfielder fortunately followed up his shot and was able to fire in the rebound to grab a late, hugely important point for the Railwaymen.
