Phil Starbuck made an unhappy return to Eton Park this evening, as the former Albion player saw his Railwaymen robbed of more points from another injury time goal.
Just like last Tuesday, an injury time goal by Andrew Corbett denied Leigh a deserved point after a promising display.
Starbuck, who played for Albion for two years before going into management, thought that RMI had grabbed a point out of the game after Wayne Maden scored his fourth goal of the season and second in two games to level the scores with just over five minutes remaining. But it wasn't to be when Corbett's deflected shot sailed past Gary Kelly deep into injury time to put the game beyond the fighting Leythers.
Alot of positives came out of the game for Leigh, one being the many oppurtunities created, fifteen shots on goal in all. Right from the beginning RMI looked like scoring, McNiven looking his usual goal-scoring self and working the 'keeper early on with great shot.
McNiven then gave Leigh the lead after 17 minutes, when Burton 'keeper Matt Duke's clearence fell to a Leigh player and broke through for McNiven who calmly slotted home his 12th goal of the season.
The Railwaymen continued to threaten and looked promising to increase their lead. Both McNiven and Carl Rezai had teasing shots from the edge of the area just go wide.
After the many chances though, it was Burton who scored next when Dale Anderson scored with six minutes of the first half remaining. And when Leigh were going to settle for 1-1 at half-time, Jonathan Howard popped up at the far post to head home from close range deep into first half injury time.
Despite conceding two goals within six minutes, Leigh came out for the second half with their heads up. They created more and more chances in what turned out to be a tight second period.
Carl Barrowclough had the best of the chances when he had a shot on the turn saved by Duke. But when it looked like it was going to be one of those nights, substitute Ian Monk crossed in for Wayne Maden who headed home from the far post to level things up.
At this point RMI where going to settle for a third succesive draw, but as in the first half they were punished for their complancency. Corbett's deflected shot found it's way past Kelly and broke the Railwaymen's hearts once again and sent then home with a bitter taste in their mouths.
