Stevenage Borough 4 Leigh RMI 0

By Matt Lawton September 27 2003
RMI's run of games without a win was extended to six games as they fell to a disappointingly heavy defeat away against Stevenage Borough in the Conference.
The hosts extended their unbeaten run to three games, and RMI manager Mark Patterson will be dismayed at his side's form after today's defeat meant they had lost five games in six outings, with last week's 1-1 draw with Tamworth being the only respite.

Borough started brightly and could've taken the lead with chances from Tony Battersby and Simon Wormull, before Anthony Elding finally gave the home side the lead after twenty six minutes, following Lionel Perez's long goal kick to fire past Stuart Coburn in the RMI goal.

Battersby went close with a header shortly after the restart before he finally got his name on the scoresheet, receiving a Simon Wormull pass before firing him with his left foot.

RMI then added their customary late goals to the occasion, once again conceding late on, with Stevenage scoring two goals in the final ten minutes through Justin Richards and Elding's second to make it eight for the season.

It was yet another disappointing RMI performance and it's becoming harder and harder to see when Leigh's dismal run will come to an end. Another long battle against relegation is becoming a more likely prospect with each game.
