Accrington dominated the possession in the first half and the Leigh defence was looking as good as ever. But when Neil Durkin made a weak back pass that put Lutel James in for the first goal of the evening, the flood gates seemed to open.
The first goal came two minutes before the break and Leigh would of been willing to go in at half-time one goal down and re-group. But James was on hand again to double Accrington's lead in injury time.
Thinking their luck couldn't get any worse, Leigh came out for the second half ready to get back into the game. But the second half started as the first ended when Accrington scored their third goal in four minutes. This time it was Paul Mullin who converted a Dean Calcutt right-wing cross.
Rory Prendergast added Accrington's fourth just after 70 minutes and it looked like Leigh's night couldn't get much worse. The night did get a little better when David McNiven scored his third goal in two games to add a consolation goal for the Railwaymen.
Leigh will be looking to re-group for their away game at Farnborough on Saturday, again Mark Patterson will have nearly a full squad to choose from and will be looking to add some points to the three won against Dagenham and to make up for the dismal display this evening.
The only injury in the squad is key player Gerry Harrison who had to go off injured this evening with a suspected dislocated shoulder and fractured collarbone. Gerry could be out for some time but we all wish him a speedy recovery.
