Commanding centre back Karl Munroe joined Leigh Genesis in the summer of 2009 after impressing Leigh boss Garry Flitcroft during a pre-season trial, where he already began to establish a formidable partnership alongside Jonathan Smith.

Manchester-born Munroe began his career with Swansea City, but made only one appearance before making more than 120 Football League appearances with Macclesfield Town.

Spells with then-Football League side Halifax Town and in the Conference with Northwich Victoria and Altrincham followed before a period with Hyde United immediately before signing for Leigh.

Munroe's Leigh Genesis debut came in a 2-1 UniBond League Division One North victory over Garforth Town on Saturday 22nd August 2009 at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium.

In only his second game for Leigh Genesis, Munroe was shown the first card of his Leigh career for a mistimed tackle in stoppage time in a 2-0 defeat at Lancaster City on Tuesday 25th August 2009.
