Drench, Stephen 2009/10

Former England Schoolboys international goalkeeper Steven Drench began his career with Blackburn Rovers, joining then-Conference National side Morecambe on loan during the 2005/06 season, before signing permanently for the Christie Park outfit during the summer of 2006.

Drench began the 2006/07 season in a straight battle with Ryan Robinson to make the number one jersey their own, and Drench won that battle when Robinson left to join Forest Green Rovers.

Drench was an impressive performers as the Shrimps fought their way to promotion via the play-offs, though Drench missed the Wembley final after being injured in a previous clash against York City. Drench largely struggled to regain his first team place after this injury and was loaned to Southport for the latter half of the 2007/08 season before joining the Sandgrounders on a permanent basis in the summer of 2008.

However, Drench was to join Blue Square Premier side on loan Cambridge United just weeks in to the 2008/09 season before joining Genesis on registration deadline day on 26th March 2009 after being released by Southport, making his Leigh debut in the 2-1 win over Cammell Laird at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on 31st March 2009.
