Goalkeeper Danny Morton began his career as a teenager in Leigh RMI's youth team but, despite lining up as a substitute on several occasions, never made a first team appearance for the club.

Spells with Warrington Town and Daisy Hill were followed by a return to Leigh in December 2008, with Morton making his Leigh Genesis debut in the 3-1 (AET) defeat to Ashton United in the UniBond League Challenge Cup Third Round at Hurst Cross on Monday 12th January 2009.

His league debut arrived five days later in Leigh's 4-0 UniBond Premier League defeat to Eastwood Town at Clitheroe's Shawbridge ground.

Morton made 10 appearances during 2008/09 before his season was prematurely ended with a broken leg that he has since recovered from to challenge Dean Porter and Stephen Drench for the number one jersey.
